An opinion on the "promotion problem"

To be honest, when I read the tag, I thought it was gonna be another one of those,"I should be promoted, blah blah blah, etc etc etc.(you get it.) Anyhoo, I'd just like to say congrats. Wonderful post and well said. I thin kthis is something that alot of people neead to hear, but I think you missed part of the audience. I thin kthis should apply to e's, eg's, and ego's. In a nutshell don't worry about the promo. Have fun, play the game and do the duty that comees with the rank whether you be an e or council

Call it earning brownie points if you wish, but honestly I was just plain disgusted with the "gimme" attitude that some people have. People like that caused my clan in WoW to fall apart and drove me from the game entirely. The last thing I want to see is the same happen in my new e-home.

A very intellectual and well thought out post.
I commend you, sir.

However, administrative capabilities are not without merit.
Too often i had difficulty as a pub with troublemakers, and the administrator power allows quick and efficient extermination of the problem-makers.

As an e you can always bring an administrator in, but I will admit the convenience of being able to deal with the matter yourself is nice.

You guys sound like you are trying to earn brownie points. :)

...I was lucky enough to join back when there was only 2 servers end of beta/early release. Was able to fit the whole TF2 eGO clan on my friends list...

Yes, but isn't the expression of disinterest in promotion and interest in promotion in itself? If i can state it in a better way, stating one extreme automatically implies the other. The post is a contradiction, you contradict your opinion by stating it. Maybe its just me, if so ignore me.

The whole topic of promotions be it with "aw i should be promoted" or "psh, i dont care if i ever get promoted" both spark the mind about thinking it. And since you are thinking about it, you are doing just the thing u said you dont want to do if that makes sense.
If you dont want people complaining about promotions or thinking when it will happen, dont say anything about it. Including this post.

Dont get me wrong, i understand what you are saying and you want to help out. but PERSONALY, i dont think this was a good idea.

Please allow me to state my intentions in authoring this post. While I did realize that some would interpret this post as an attempt to brown nose the leadership of eGO, the fact is that I still feel the sting from my last clan, which fell apart because of ONE power hungry member. One of the origonal members eventually became an officer and later clan leader. When he decided that he was done playing WoW, he decided to disband the guild rather than just pass on the position of leader, as was done to him. My clan never recovered. The guild lost thousands of gold that was in the guild bank and tens of thousands in rare and valuable items. While the guild did reform, it never recovered from such a staggering loss and decayed to the point of collapse. That's how I came to TF2: I'd lost my community in World of Warcraft and no longer had heart to play it.

One man's selfishness utterly destroyed my clan. I still feel the sting from the event and seeing all of this talk about people demanding promotions aroused very strong and bitter feelings. I DO understand what you mean when you don't think making this post was a good idea; I agree with that notion. My feelings, however, were too strong to keep to myself. I HAD to write this or I think I'd've exploded.

The outrage, the indignation, the hurt, the frustration, the resentment, the exasperation needed some means to be expressed, and this was, for better or worse, my way of cleaning my closet.

Make of it as you will.

Sadly with a clan this size, some deserving people get overlooked. Best bet is try to stand out. I was lucky enough to join back when there was only 2 servers end of beta/early release. Was able to fit the whole TF2 eGO clan on my friends list. If I had to go through it now with this size, I might try to send a tell to admins asking if they need any help. Even with simple things like asking people to please watch the language when needed. Something to make me stand out in a positive light. But thats just me thinking outloud.

This is so true. One of the best ways to stand out, is to participate. Scrims, forums, ingame, IRC, Vent
I did not have a prob with being an e and i believe i know why i got promoted. But I dont go bragging about it at all or go around asking for a promotion ([link=http://www.edgegamers.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?91709]http://www.edgegamers.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?91709[/link]). Of course, it did take a while to learn to pull that extra letter in-game. Had a big losing streak right after i got my G !lol
