Quad core onTF2

Is there any way to more fully optimize my quad core (Q6600 2.4ghz 8MB L2, 1066FSB) for TF2? Its annoying when I have all this horsepower but no where to put the tread marks.

Nope. TF2 has little to no multi-core support. They're 'working on it' at Valve speed.

A fast single core would be better for TF2. I've got a quad that runs 2.5 stock and it was bottlenecking. TF2 seems to want 3 or more, boosted it up to 3.3 and it runs fine.

Get yourself a good system monitor. Speedfan will cut it, but I like everest. If you're playing at 90% or more on a single core while all the other cores are near idle, that game isn't optimized for multiple cores.

Off the top of my head though? Age of Conan is.

Their last update actually added some support for dual cores, no word yet on quad cores, and it's very unlikely that it would ever happen considering how hard it would be to reprogram source to accommodate them.

Of course there is console commands to help ultilize them better. But it makes your game unstable and you will crash alot so I would not recommend doing that.

The only games on the market right now that will actually support quad core are Crysis and Conan. Nothing else will make use of 4. But as for using all 4 on TF2, it's not going to happen any time soon. You are probably going to want to OC your Q6600 to about 3.0ghz. You will see a performance increase. From what people say, it can easily get there on stock cooling without any problems. I wouldn't push it anywhere past 3.0 unless you have some good after-market cooling on it though.

Supreme Commander uses multiple cores, I believe...

Some modern games do use multiple cores, my best example is crysis. Running crysis I actually get better performance multi-tasking than I do with TF2, but TF2 obviously runs much better
