I've been shopping around for a motherboard, mainly because my current one:ABIT Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI isn't compatable with my new processor: QX9650

are their any motherboards that you know of or use that are gamer friendly and under 250?

i prefer sli over crossfire for further upgrades, and it HAS HAS to be computable with the 45nm QX9650

Really what you are looking for is a compatible chipset. Once you get that down you can see what manufacture produces a mobo with that chip.

Compatible chip sets are:

Intel (Crossfire)
x48
x38

Nvidia (SLI)
780i
790i

Let me know if I missed something. I just did a quick trot through google.
 
The 780i is currently more stable than the 790i. However, a few BIOS updates down the road the 790i should be the better choice if you're using a 45nm.

And I'm a big fan of eVGA.

and i agree lafin, i like evga a lot more but i might have to go with the x48 because I'll get it cheap from my dad
 
The intel chipsets are significantly more stable and many would argue better in any way.

yeah plus they have this cool software thing that monitors almost everything, there are many things like it but it allows you to OC monitor everything and set temp limits. I've never seen anything like it.
 
If you like that sort of things, get Everest. Monitoring temperatures and the like isn't it's primary purpose, but it does it better than anything I've ever seen. Even has an on screen display that you can set to over-lay over full screen apps if you're not a dual screen fellow and want to keep an eye on things while in game.
 
Yeah I use everest myself. You can set it to monitor whatever it is you want, and it places a little square icon in the taskbar that you can color co-ordinate to match whatever you want. I have both my GPU Dies with black squares and their ambient in green, and then my CPU temp is a maroonish box, with the seperate core and total utilizations in red. It is perfect for people who run in windowed mode, as you can just glimpse down in a graphically intense situation and see how your temps are doing. But if you don't use windowed mode, it is still a very nice tool to get real-time temp readings conveniently.

As for the motherboards, those are all good. They will all be pretty up-to-date awhile from now, so you won't have to be doing any upgrading for a few years.
