PC won't Start Up

Hey guys. I left my computer on last night, and this morning, I noticed it said, "Starting up" in the blue Windows screen.
I decided to wait and let it start, but nothing was happening after 5 minutes. I held down the power button and shut off my PC. Then, I turned it back on, everything seemed fine, the I got the black screen with different ways to start up Windows from a powerfailure, nothing new, Safe mode, Safe mode with Networking, Normal, etc.
I clicked normal, then it went right back through the booting process and landed me right back on the black screen.
Help?

or start in safemode. if it boots go to start -> run -> chkdsk/r it will say it needs to be reboot to run. do this it will take about 1-2 hours with anything bigger than an 80 gb hard drive. if that doesnt work then do the repair install with your windows disk like i decribed above.

slow. you gotta fix that link so he can look there. Myself honestly, I don't know if formatting the harddrive will fix it. You can do what slow told you to do, or if you want more advice I would say make a post on the DOD:S forums and see what greenmonkey says. I personally don't have much knowledge on booting.

I had the same problem on a clients computer, I just repaired Windows. (Not reinstall, but repair.)

If you can get into safemode, CHKDSK is a good option. Enter the command

chkdsk c: /x

and that will tell you that it will check the disk next time you reboot. Reboot your computer and let it run (maybe for a long while). I should repair some stuff, then get you back in.
If not, you can get back into safe mode and look for anything suspicious in the device manager. If there are splatted devices (yellow exclamation mark over the device), then you can remove it from device manager or update the drivers.
After that, you're looking at reconstructing what changes may have been made to the system, including automatically updating software. In safe mode, you can also read the event log, and it'll tell you lots of stuff, but you have to (of course) be able to know what it means...
