Core 2 Duo vs. Pentium Dual Core

Take it from me, compairing a Pentium D to a Core 2 Duo is like compairing a toaster to a blast furnace. I had a Pentium D 805 for a while, but after I got my new Core 2 Duo e6420, I can't believe the performace leap. Get the Core 2 or you will be VERY dissapointed down the road.

I have a AMD 5000+ and had it installed on a friends computer because my mobo doesnt fit me case yet (lol) and its the fastest cpu ive came around

I'm sure you've already bought it, but here's my opinion:

Pentium Dual Core is Intel's first attempt at dual core. I believe it was actually two dye instead of the common one dye nowadays. Both generations use the same socket. Socket 775, if I'm not mistaken. What you would gain from having Core 2 Duo over the Pentium D is pretty expansive. Faster speeds, higher front side bus, more L2 cache (up to 4 mb now I think), and less power consumption. However, you won't see too much a difference if your concern is for DoD. What really makes more of a difference is the type of Graphics card you have and what the clock speed is for the GPU. That's where a LOT of the gaming difference is made.

The core 2 had a lower clock speed but a faster front end bus uses less power and runs cooler. It's a better processor than the pentium D. I'd go with the core 2 duo over the Pentium D any day.

I don't play with AMD. Nothing wrong with them I just prefer Intel.,,, you know the guys that invented the technoly instead of stole it. :?
