I have been playing CS for a long time, I remember in the good old days of 1.0-1.6 there wasn't much use to the silencer because for some reason it widened the crosshairs and reduced accuracy somewhat, and it didn't conceal muzzleflash anyway.

Just curious, in Source, out of habit I just don't really use it on the M4 or the USP, and I know it does now block muzzleflash and will keep you from showing up on the map, but are there any other advantages or drawbacks of using it? Does it raise/lower accuracy or power?

its does make it quieter and about the muzzle flash idk
xhairs in css change like 0.1% or so.
it makes the m4 look bigger/longer thats the only thing i notice

i thought the silencer makes it quieter :P

True, which is the reason I use it. Otherwise I would get a headache, lol.

It's all dependent on if the other players are using the same models/skins that you are. It's easy to make a louder "silenced" report...

I've got a G36C skin and it sounds like a bomb going off when I'm using it without the silencer. Now, with the silencer on, it sounds like a bomb going off several miles away. And in a high pitch.

Accurate, quieter ... and less damage.

Silencer reduces the muzzle velocity.

It's main purpose is to make it so nearby enemies can't hear your shots which is very useful even if it's not shooting at someone like if you accidentally shoot then it's nice to have the silencer on so enemies don't know where you are because your finger slipped on the mouse or whatever.

LOL

Btw, would you happen to be from Colorado? I used to know someone with that same name

Some times I use them, and sometimes I don't. Sometimes its nice because you are quiet so your not detected, but sometimes I just don't use it. There are some advantages to having it, and not having it.

the silencer cuts down on the kickback of the gun so when you hold down the trigger it stays more accurate than if you had it off

also it weakens it a little bit

sweet, now that we have established the pros and cons of the silencer, how many of you guys generally play with it on most of the time, with it off most of the time, or strategically switch it on and off a lot?

I don't go about it with much strategy, except that with fewer people on the server when stealthiness is a bit more key I generally put it on and on servers with tons of people where it doesnt matter much and tons of people are shooting everywhere, I usually just never bother to put it on.

Well i have to say that I am a huge fan of the silencer , and as Mike wrote "It's all in your head, the silencer does nothing." I would have to agree. The silencer is in my head, but its so far in my head that I play better when I now its screwed onto the end of my gun. Its weird, but so very true!
