Tech Help Windows 7 to Windows 10

Yes they also said that for Windows XP and still sent in updates months after if it "unsupported"

And that still doesn't address the single sticking point: his job requires him to use Windows 10.

Guess what? If he gets a virus while using Win7 and it affects the business or his work, he risks losing his position for not following company policy.

Alrighty so having delved into both operating systems at some length I can say that of course Windows 7 is the better option for security purposes, but as some have mentioned Windows 7 extended support WILL end in 2020 and therefore Microsoft will stop pushing security updates to Windows 7 builds. As much of a lover of Win7 as I am I do recommend migrating from the OS by 2021, we can go hard on the Windows Firewall paired with Symantec but it still isn't the best idea to stick with an unsupported OS.

Windows 10 as we all know is a bloated piece of s**t that with all respect should stay locked inside of a VM for testing purposes... However that does not mean you cannot make the OS your own, with a little modification of your group policies you can easily disable / restrict the majority of current telemetry present within Windows 10 and there are a number of .ps1 scripts and tools out there to automatically do this for you.

To combat the bloatware and considering the Op is looking to use the operating system for work purposes I HIGHLY recommend the Enterprise LTSC Windows 10 builds as considering the builds are shipped for Enterprise, the vast majority of the pre-installed bloatware and telemetry is not present making it easier to fix up the OS to your liking :P

Now to answer the Op's question, I'd recommend the exact path you were taking. Grab an iso of the build you want, verify the signature, create the bootable flash drive and then boot and install from there.

This conjecture of yours frightens me,i don't want to lose my job.

Also, totally oftopic, Gaming on windows 10 is faster than on windows 7. Gaming on Linux is even faster than that in some cases....
