how do i make maps?

Dang guys, I'm having so much fun with this I haven't even played CS for the last day or so. Two things that are bugging the hell out of me though:

1.) My skyboxes don't look good at all, the texture either repeats a ton or is all stretched and distorted, and when I spectate around on the map its obvious they are just walls right there, it doesn't blend or anything.

2.) Even though I have played a player start point and the info_counterterrorist/terrorist spawn points, it still says both teams are full :(

Anyone know the solutions to these problems?

Thanks

Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong? I tried one where I manually made each wall with the skybox texture and made sure all 6 sides formed a perfect cube, then I also tried taking the block tool and making a giant cube around everything and making it hollow. Neither has worked. I either get a stretched distorted picture or it uses the tiny 150X150 or whatever texture samples and repeats them so it ends up looking like walpaper from the 70's.

There are several videos on CS:S mapping on youtube :P check those out. thats what i did.

Yay! I don't know what happened but I started from scratch and it is all working perfectly. I am making an absolutely huge map with bridges in the sky and everything now hehehehe

Your problem with both teams being full- Move all your character spawns UP into the air a few blocks. If they are too close to the ground/on the ground they will not work.

Also FPSbanana.com has a huge section of tutorials for CS:S mapping

Yep, thats exactly what it ended up being. As for the skybox, I didn't know there was a specific skybox texture to use, and then you assign the texture for what it looks like in map properties, I was physically applying the texture to the walls and thats where my problem ended up being.

You know what, some reason when i make my skybox, it doesnt even work.. Ive tried the one with just a plain old sky, and making my own 3D sky box, but it simply does not work.

Also, for those who need help with func_ and trigger_ related stuff, ask me. I can give you shorter and easier steps on how to use them(elevators, breakable, teleport, soundscapes etc)

Hey, if you need help with the skybox, I would be glad to help. I just do 2D skyboxes though, I haven't even attempted a 3d yet.

Speaking of Source SDK and Hammer, I have a problem. For some reason, sometimes I can't select anything and no matter what tool I click on, when I click in any of the four windows my mouse acts as navigation. For example, I cant select a box, draw a box, or select a face for texturing because whenever I click in the window it just drags my view around.

The only way I can get around this problem is to close everything and restart my computer. Not even closing hammer and restarting source fixes this. I have a feeling its an option somewhere and I just don't know what it is. It is a pain in the butt because I can't edit or do anything, my mouse just acts as a viewfinder :( Does anyone know how I can turn this off?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just hit spacebar and it works normal again.

Oh, I have another question, I haven't seen this in any of the youtube tutorials, how do I cut holes in things? Like for windows and doorways and whatnot.
