Let me preface this by saying: I am not suggesting we get rid of the Teamspeak server. That's a suicide suggestion anyway.

However, we recently got to the Level 3 tier of Nitro Boost in the Discord (thank you, boosters!) and I would like to start taking advantage of that sweet, sweet 384 Kbps audio quality VC.

What I had in mind was a public VC and then a private VC for every division (only joinable by players of that division, of course) and then a private DS VC too.

This isn't hard to set up at all (it's entirely trivial). You can put the public VC in the General Category, then put each division VC in the respective category. The only one that needs more steps is the DS one (Create Channel > VC > Private Channel > Nitro Booster (or in the future, add a DS role too)).

This sounds like everything teamspeak does but worse.

I don't get why people are so adverse to having VC's in the Discord. I said from the start that this wasn't a replacement for TS. I'm not offering it as an alternative, I'm offering it for players who don't want to start up another application to talk in the background to some friends.

TeamSpeak is a superior chat application but more people are going to have Discord installed on their PC anyway. Let's, at the very least, get them into the Discord then push them into the Teamspeak server.
 
Yeah I honestly like TS better, it makes it easy to organize and looks nicer

This I agree with. We’re not taking advantage of discord. Let’s face the facts, more and more people are just using discord, TS3 is a dying breed. Opening up some voice channels, in my opinion, is not a bad idea.
 
In my opinion it would be a cluttered mess, I don’t believe discord is ready to support massive communities like we have. And I’ll re-iterate my point, what does discord offer that teamspeak doesn’t? All I’m seeing is some people may not feel like downloading teamspeak.
 
I don't really see the point of not having one or two common voice channels, a vc or two for every division, and a DS vc (if there's already a DS text channel) but I really do not want a bunch of vcs. Discord with more than a handful of voice channels gets really cluttered and ugly really quickly and do not work well. One of the main reasons TS works so well and I don't think we really need voice channels in Discord is because it just looks so much cleaner and works better for what we use it for, which is a lot of voice channels.

+1, though. I'd like to see some VCs in the Discord.
 
Damned if you do and damned if you don't. Would it be nice to have some channels in Discord? Sure. Would it be doing anything different that Teamspeak is already doing? No not really.

In reality you aren't really hurt by doing it, but then again we would need to make sure people were following the same rules in the Discord voice channels as people need to in the Teamspeak channels.
 
+1, I would use those VC’s.
Anyone who keeps saying TS is better, that’s not the entire point. It’s another place to talk, If people want to use it. I agree, we gotta utilize it. I don’t think it’s something everyone will migrate over to, but it’s jsut another choice. And I like choices.

^This is the main point.

Everything said about Discord not being able to hold big communities together effectively is somewhat true (take a look at the Minecraft communities and decide that tidbit for yourself).

Let me reiterate again: I don't want to move everything into Discord. Just one VC per division, which, if you're in only one, it's not a big problem for you, you would only see 3 with my plan.

As far as the good Discord can do, events are normally messaged through an @everyone and @here. TS afaik doesn't handle that well unless you want to mass poke everyone (Hey, wake-up!).

Discord really doesn't offer much else. I'll admit it. It sucks for massive event handling like we do. But it does handle small communities great. Which, if you really think about it, eGO is a collective of small communities who agree to a set of rules (GTA has no effect on CSGO and vice versa).

With that logic, division leaders could extend their own section in the Discord. That would be cool to see (but let's stay with 1 for right now).

+1 I agree don't get me wrong I will still use Teamspeak but I don't see a problem with having some VC rooms especially now that we are tier 3
 
Don't really see a big issue with testing this out. I recall us having VC rooms for a bit (just one or two general ones) but never saw more than 1-2 people in them. Perhaps there's more interest now though.

I can see a few users chatting on their phone with it with their friends.
 
As I've started to see that a lot of people like to move over to Discord and some people don't enjoy having to download another client in order to talk to their friends. As I understand is this is something that can be looked into and thought about -- even through this into a testing period to see how this will go. I know there are people who go to College or are in another area and would like to speak to their friends through discord... As I am going to get the "We have text channels or just call them" most people wouldn't like to just call their friends or just type to them. I do know that Discord is becoming used more frequently, we have people boosting the server which gained us quality voice channels, using these could possibly move us forward to greater things.

Only thing is that all rules are still going to end up being enforced just like they are for Teamspeak, I would really enjoy this idea and have it go through a "beta" period before its completely just ruled out as a no. Discord is a place for a lot of people to talk to their friends without the hassle of having to download Teamspeak and this would just create another place for people to come together and game.

I love the idea in other words.
 
I wouldn't use it but why not have it as an option to all the people who like discord.

Facts, I love to talk with people in the community, but TS really isn't for me, however, I always have discord open and would love to see VC's added.
 
We're all different, meaning we will have different opinions and thoughts when it comes to stuff like this. The good ol' saying on this from yours truly would be: If it ain't broke don't fix it. Discord and TeamSpeak have but one thing in common, that being a way to communicate with others while gaming or whatever have you. Prefer using Discord over TS? Prefer using TS over Discord? Righteous. Use what you want, as they are but preferences.

I'm old fashioned and have been accustomed to using TS, it does what I need. I've got nothing bad to say about this suggestion as it is plausible. Thought I'd drop in share my thoughts (for what it's worth) and hope all is well.

If I am not mistaken TS has a way to @ people/groups etc.

I personally don't see why we can't have 4 VC or so
