I want to upgrade my computer.

Okay... my desktop is a store bought hp piece of dudi and I wanna upgrade. I need a new motherboard, cpu, ram, case and power supply. may be a new moniter. Is there a place to sell those kinds of parts? may be not the case. I already have a decent vid card and hard drive.

My problem: My budget is $500-700. What's the best stuff I can get for cheap? and where?

newegg.com if you can order online, if not you cant try to find a local computer shop they usually will give you a deal if you tell them your budget and what you need

You sound like you might be new to building your own computer...if you are I might suggest looking into a barebones system. It will come w/ a case, power supply, and mobo already installed.

They can be found on newegg or anywhere really. like niko said check out some local shops.
 
Don't even think that you will find many good motherboards that will fit in that HP.

The best you could do would be build your own (I advise a full tower case, GREAT airflow) and have complete control. Or, just add some RAMz or a new processor (BE VERY CAREFUL, you have to make sure it'll be compatible with the socket you've got on your current motherboard.

The thing about where I live is that the only places that sell computer and computer parts are circuit city and best buy. There are no small computer shops.
 
Here are my recomendations for each.I kinda went very high quality parts and decent price in your budget.The monitor would be one of your choice,for the information you got me i would need to know what video card you got and whats your current monitor to consider an upgrade.

-Case:Lian Li PC-7B plus II. No fancy lighting,no fancy colors just a no nonsense aluminum case with great airflow. I got a similar one and i can tell you theres no other case at this price range that beat it.Other cases would be the Antec 900,Coolermaster RC 690,LIAN LI PC-A05B.

The Heatsink that comes with the Intel CPU is good but if you are gonna overclock get a Coolermaster Hyper 212. It should help you reach around 3 GHz speeds on the E6550. I got a E6420 @ 3.1GHz running for months with that heatsink and i couldnt be happier.

Forget about Barebones PC's and cases with PSU's included.most of the time they got pretty crappy components so they can be sold cheaper,that give rise to problems later on.

Also don't forget if you are gonna be using Windows you gonna need a new OS cd,the one from the HP wont work. Unless you got a retail edition of windows,you gonna need to buy a new one.OEM versions are cheaper that Retail but can only be used on one Motherboard(Vista OEM authentication lets use it on your next motherboard i think) unless it breaks down.
 
Shipping costs are a pain. If you have the Windows XP CD for your HP you can switch over to the new computer you will have to call it in when you activate windows, they'll ask How many computers you have windows xp installed on? You say 1 swiching over from an old PC to a new one presto saved your self money. If you don't have the CD you will have to buy it retail no way around it.

PS. If you do have th CD and it says built for HP, no chance of switching over.

PSS. Make sure you have a quality brand power supply at least 450w.
