Lately, I have noticed alot of ban requests from recruits that have been getting denied. The 3 most common reasons for this I've found are:
1. Insufficient proof, or no proof at all
2. Did not know they needed Steam ID
3. Could not obtain the SteamID or proof due to server crash/player leaving/loss of logs, etc
Topic #1: Obtaining Proof
You're playing on one of our servers, no admins are on and a player is an absolute disgrace, breaking every rule and then some. You decide its time to place a ban request, but first you need to collect your proof. There are a variety of ways to obtain this proof.
1. Screen recording software
Screen recording software you can obtain for free as listed below
- Shadowplay via Nvidia Geoforce Experience
- AMD ReLive
- OBS Studio
- dxtory
- or Windows Game DVR which is built into windows
Once recorded simply trim the video to a small clip of the infraction(s) and upload it to youtube or equivilant. Place the weblink in the demo section of the ban request.
- This is an effective means of proof for most rule breakings - Mass rdm/freekill, server disruption, saying the No No in voicechat, etc.
2. Screenshots
- Hit print screen located above insert on the keyboard.
- Create a paste via one of the 2 sites that accept photo upload pasteboard.co, or justpaste.it and paste the photo via ctrl+v (if you use pasteboard, crop it as necessary) and publish it.
- Copy the unique URL given (for justpaste.it it will be located in the URL bar at the top of the screen).
- Paste it into the demos section of the ban request.
- Very useful for text chat since its faster to upload a screenshot than a video.
3. Condump the Logs
- Your best friend on the TTT server for reporting mass rdms, and is useful on other servers for chat logs.
- At the end of each round all damage done by players during the round is placed in the console; condumps are a means to save the logs to a .txt file. Which means, you dont have to worry about losing the proof after a few rounds.
- Check to make sure they actually mass rdmed - Killed 2, and attempted a third. This is the minimum criteria they must meet for this method to work.
- Create a condump by typing "condump" in the console. This will save a Condump###.txt file to the following location: "...\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo
- Open the condump, copy and paste it into a new pastebin at Pastebin.com, justpaste.it or an equivilant website.
- Publish the new pastebin, and copy the new URL located up at the top of screen.
- Paste the link in the Demos section of your ban request.
Alright so you completed the first step which is to obtain proof; however its your first time placing a ban request and you didn't think you would need a steamID or perhaps you have no clue what a SteamID is. That leads us to the next topic....
Topic #2 SteamID's and How to Get Them
SteamIDs are unique identities given to each Steam account. They are typically in the following format STEAM_#:#:#########. A player's SteamID never changes which is why our bans (except in the case of Ban Evaders) use SteamIDs. We cannot typically fill out the ban without the SteamID. This is why obtaining the SteamID prior to filling out a ban request is important.
SteamID's of players can be accessed through a few different means:
1. In Game Console
- By far the easiest method and recommended because it can be saved as a part of your condump.
- Simply open console and type Status to show the SteamIDs of all players connected to the lobby.
2. Use a SteamID finder website
- There are multiples sites that look up SteamID's using steamURL. This method works so long as they are still in the server. Technically you could look them up in steam via their steamname but that is time consuming if they have a name similar to others.
- To get steam URL simply right click their name in the scoreboard and select steam profile. At the top of their profile their web URL will be displayed.
The most common websites to look up SteamID using Steam URL are:
One fall back of these methods is that often times players will leave immediately after the offense, or the server crashes and they dont rejoin, and in the case of chat logs, these can be lost entirely. Fortunately a long time ago we set ul a solution for this which bring us to our third and final topic.
Topic #3: The Wonders of GameMe
GameMe is a game server data collection website designed specifically to collect data from the servers over time. Its covers all of our servers and can be accessed through the 2 following links:
CSGO: https://prestigegaming.gameme.com
Other Games: http://edgegamers.gameme.com/
What information can you look up with GameMe?
- SteamIDs of all players who have ever connected to the server searched for via SteamName
- Player specific chat logs on the server with times and dates included
- Every time they've connected to the server
- How much time they have on the server
- Name history via Aliases
This is an incredibly useful tool, that shouldn't be underestimated both for admins and recruits alike.
Note: The ban request form is not accessible without a forum account, therefor a forum account is required to submit a ban request.
