My "day job"is a software engineer. A few years ago, I started a side business/hobby doing hydrographics. Turned my garage into a full blown shop.. paint both and all.
I've done everything from large stuff like motorcycle's, 4-wheelers, jet ski's.. even picked up a run of about 150 welding helmets.
and of course, it seems like everybody wants to order a custom created tumbler for Christmas...

I had forgotten how freaking big the Cooler Master CPU cooler is.
I had one on my 09 build (interesting side note, I actually found the threads for my 2009 and 2014 builds still here...)
Anyways.. I was ready to throw the thing out the window. I haven't had an "adult beverage" in almost a week.. I was wanting one last night...
I have everything but my "legacy" hard drives installed. Fresh install of windows 10 on the m2 and just finished flashing the BIOS to the newest version.
But the journey was...bad. The wife saw the look on my face, and left to go "Christmas Shopping".

I've always had trouble working with small parts. I'm big. Like 6'3..and wide. Body frame of a NFL lineman (without their skills). Big hands. Add in the fact that I'm older and have trouble seeing little print. I actually have a "lighted magnifying glass" thingy I use.. don't laugh, it will happen to you one day also..
So I installed the new motherboard. Took a bit cause I have trouble with the little pins... watched a video on my phone about how to install the CPU and the cooler.. easy peasy.
Install the CPU. Put thermal past stuff on...could not figure out how to install cooler. This isn't like the one in the video. Instructions that came with the cooler SUCK. How does this attach??
O.. umm.. duh. Video would have been "stock" Intel cooler. This is different.
Watch video on how to install Cooler Master. OOO! This bracket goes under the MB and screws in. I see..
*sigh* Gotta remove the MB. *sigh*
Take all the stupid little screws out of the MB, attach the cooler mount bracket thingy... mount the MB back in the case... All the while muttering about stupid little screws.
Get that done, redo the thermal past (cause somewhere I messed it all up).
Put the cooler in place with it pointing so the fan would blow out the back of the case.
Ahh... job well done! That's half the battle.. yea..that's the hard part..wait.. umm.. ummm..
$@#@!!! The cooler is blocking off half the DIMM slots!!
Ok, let's turn it so it blows out the top of the case. No problem!
Trying to unscrew the Cooler from the mounting bracket..causes the mounting bracket screws to also turn. I can't get it undone.
*sigh* Gotta take off the MB again. It's at this point the wife leaves...
Get the MB off.. stupid little screws.
Get the Cooler all mounted correctly. It still blocks off one of the DIMM slots. Which means I can't add more sticks later to upgrade *sigh*
Get the MB back on.. *stupid little screws*.
Get al the power things connected.. boot to BIOS.
By now my back hurts, my neck hurts. And I'm in a bad mood... so I just turn everything off.

It's a great little cooler for the price, but it is bulky for sure. When I first got one, I thought I could just replace it... sure, no problem...
Until I realized accessing the back side of the motherboard was impossible on my case because where it had a service hole for putting a cooler on, well, it wasn't lined up with where my CPU was. 3 hours later of making up swear words, lol.

So, everything is finally done. Hardware wise, everything is done and working. Windows 10 is (re)activated and everything is good.
But it was a 2 day teeth grinding process.
On top of the problems I had mentioned.. got everything locked down on the mother board and started one at a time installing the dvd and hard drives.
I get down to the LAST drive..and it won't work.
Problem was.. there are two spots to plug the m2 cards into. One under that spiffy big heat sink thingy you have to unscrew..other is right below the cpu. I choose to install it under the spiffy heat sink. Why not? That's what it's made for.. to make sure the m2 card stays nice and cool.
Thing is.. if you install a NVMe m2 (which mine is) into the slot under the heatsink, it disables 2 of the sata ports. And of COURSE to fix it, I had to remove the vid card..and when I did that, the little clip/lever thing on the pci express slot came off.. I thought I broke the board.. luckily it just popped back on. I almost cried... just the way everything was going.
But, got everything on and working.
Then.. had one last issue.

See how the fan on the side of the case is mounted.. with the "corners" at the top and the side?
Guess what happened when I tried to close the case...the top corner of that fan hit the cooler master. I could not close the case.
I just stood there.. looking at it.. dumb founded.
Five minutes later, the wife came into the room and turned right back around
She walked into the room.. and I had a freaking hacksaw cutting away, laughing like some manic. Chopped the top part of that 'triangle' off. But darn, I got it to work..
So it's pretty much done.
Might upgrade the mouse.
And while the tower has some usb ports on the top/front, they are older ones. I may install a usb hub thingy into one of the empty 3.5 inch front bays... just as long as I don't have to break out the hacksaw to do it...

yea..well.. failure is the best teacher. It had been 5 years since I built a rig. Had a lot of (re)learning to do. Good experience though...
She stayed away. She really did leave the house Sat. She SAID it was to go Christmas shopping.. but didn't see her bring anything back with her...
I took my "discarded" parts and set them aside to rebuild my step-daughters computer..which is my old-old computer parts.
Why would you want the 970 though? It came from my 2014 build. In terms of computer parts, it's a zombie.

1660 and 1060 are also really good cards, but I don't know if they're as 'bang for your buck' as the 1050Ti is.

Hey all, so im looking at going from my gtx 670 to an rx 480. According to userbenchmark.com, the Sapphire is the best benched card of rx 480, but ive never used a Sapphire before. Does anyone happen to own one of these by chance?

Nothing wrong with Sapphire as a brand or anything - used to be my go-to for Radeon cards when I used them.
