Bad Company 2 The mysterious green/purple dot flash while playing the game

Like most of you folks I've been playing this game for a long time. One of the enduring mysteries is the little green orb that flashes once in a while on the the screen, like some kind of pixel error...it was a common topic of conversation quite a few years back (don't know if anyone remembers) but nobody seemed to know what it was. I thought I'd be able to find a screen shot to illustrate what I mean, but no luck.

Anyway, if you know what I'm talking about, I figured it out what it is! (like 8 years later. yay? lol) It means that you've been spotted by a recon with "auto-spot" turned on...and like mortars, they even tell you where that particular recon is. I've never read about a solution before.

I always shout out when I get killed by a recon with autospot...it almost always means they're spotting more than "we" are so we need to step it up. But then I started to notice that I'd see that little green circle flash just before I got taken down by a recon equipped so. Then one game an over zealous medic kept reviving me and that green dot showed up in the same spot like 3 times, which was weird because it always looked random, but it was the same recon with autospot, and I was always able to spot him.

Over the last few weeks I've tested it by standing still and getting boinked a second or third time on purpose...dot always shows up where the recon is, and he's always spotable.

If this is common knowledge, please feel free to burst my bubble.

No... It's like a little green dot a few mm across, and it only appears for a second somewhere on the screen. It doesn't originate from your character.

When I get home tonight I'll do some more searching and see if I can find a capture. Like I said, it was a popular subject a few years back. I'm surprised I can't find any info on it...probably my search terms.

I'll give you more info later if I can find some, or make some.

never heard about it :O isnt it something with DX? some versions had weird bugs (e.g. with 9, you could see through the top of VADS hill and through rocks on C hill)

Hell I get a purple dot flash every now and then when in the uncap,but, I know it has to do with the nvidia drivers....................

I had issues with NVidia drivers as soon as I bought my new system so I swapped it out for an AMD chipset...no further issues so far.

I see the random purple dot every now and again, didn't seem related to anything just thought it was me.

Next time you notice it, see if your next death is by a recon with autospot.

It makes sense in another way, too. I'm assuming autospot would use some kind of laser sighting, so it could be equivalent to what would happen in real life if the beam were to flash across your field of vision.

Still pizzin' me off that I can't find anything on it. Mind you, I didn't really expect the search terms "green red dot square flash artifact" to return anything except a whole lot of false leads, and I wasn't disappointed. lol

(eGO)Major Trubble teamed up with me today for a small experiment. He stood still like a good target should and I gave him a few hits including head shots. All he ever saw was the bullet coming towards him, no flashes.

More work has to be done.

Ohhh...I may have made contact with a few dots back then...some double barreled, some blottered, even a windowpane a time or two.

I'm a sixties child - what can I say - except that I'm damned glad we didn't have to deal with the drugs they have now. My 1976 self would have said "Who the hell SMOKES speed??"

The idea is that the spot should appear when the autospot lights you up, not when you get shot at.

Now, this theory that I'm so proud of might just be me and wishful thinkin'...I don't use autospot but maybe I'll try it for a few days and see if anyone notices.

I've seen said octagon looking thing before, looked over that way and sure enough a recon was in that direction.
