With the launch of the LSCPD Investigations Squad, we have plans in mind that MOSTLY can be resolved via roleplay. HOWEVER, I feel it would be beneficial to the roleplay of investigations on both the side of the law and the outlaw for there to be tools/evidence acquisition capabilities.
One of the first things I'd like to suggest is more emotes involving investigations. Currently we have an inspect emote, briefcase 2(Which I think is cool for forensics equipment), but it would be cool to have more emotes such as fingerprint dusting, taking measurements, pickup and inspect object.
Furthermore it would be great if we could implement some forms of evidence left behind on the scene. This would be an opportunity for criminals to lay out a crime scene that can lead to an investigation. I'm thinking add objects such as bullet casings, clothing material, maybe even a blood stain object that can be placed on the ground? If this is possible, these would of course be set to expire after an hour or so, so that it doesn't put too much of a strain on the server. Maybe they'd be available to whitelisted criminals only to prevent abuse.
I'd also like to see a camera for investigators to be able to use. This camera would work like the news camera where you go into first person and can take screen shots by activating it(Would be cooler if we could collect photos ingame in a library, but I'm trying to be realistic here
). This would allow even more immersion regarding the investigation process.
Currently the idea is to conduct an RP investigation on scene, then to fill out a lab test form which requires the criminals involved in the scene to provide their OOC contact info so we can submit the test to them and they fill out the results as a form of forensics test answered by them based on their recollection of the scene. It's a system that can and will work, but if there is any way we can find ways to connect criminals to a scene ingame rather than having to do something like this, it would be extremely beneficial.
Ultimately of course it would be cool if doing things like finger print dusting actually provided results ingame, but it sounds like that's a bit far out of the ballpark, so my suggestions are more so based around adding simple things that can benefit the roleplay of investigations while not being too much of a burden on the server.
I'm all ears here on ways to expand upon these ideas, these are just a few off the top of my head. End of the day, the goal is to make the job of investigations feel more connected to the gameplay and smooth in process and not mostly /me messages. I of course understand stuff like this can take time, I'm not suggesting it happen immediately, I would just like to see this ability be expanded upon.
I think that adding investigative roleplay to the server will yield a new depth to the current RP that can help to encourage players to RP more long term goals and well thought out scenarios that are interconnected and not so much one offs.
