We have been experiencing multiple circumstances where admins are downed every time they join the server. The unfortunate thing is that as admins, we cannot see who is doing the downs, or ups. It's cowardly when every now and then a admin is downed for NO APPARENT reason, and the person is anonymous. Constantly. And there are good suspicions on who it is, but no proof because we cannot tell for certain. If this can be changed in chat, that would be much appreciated for everyone.

Grounded Justice Grounded Justice ,

I agree with you. All players should see who is upping or downing them. The original reason why the reps were introduced was so that players can be rewarded (like planting a bomb), or criticized ( e.g. spawn camping, etc.). Ever since the plugin was removed from the sever not only do all the players not know who is upping or downing them but if an admin joins and they start downing the admin then it is a form of grieving. This grieving could also go to the regular players who get downed for no reason and they can't even communicate with the admins because they don't know who downed them (even if they have an idea).

Cheers,
~Capt

I would add that this could be a form of harassment if a single player was targeted and repeatedly downed. Even if everyone can't see who's giving ups and downs, if admins could, we would be able to see who and if it falls under harassment.

At this point in time, the rep system is completely useless. It serves no function to its original purpose nor does it actually have any effect. All it does is spam chat, just like coinflips and gangs. To add to this, I believe there are too many pointless plugins and outdated rules that simply need to be revised or removed. Rep plugin is go time.

I feel it may be time to just axe this system. It contributes nothing and is just e-points. Causes more problems than any kind of good. I don't think it would be overly missed. Half the users don't even know what it does most of the time and tend to ask what it's point is (which has been going on for a long time).

Can't remember but a LONG time ago it used to sync across all our source games, but broke and never got reset i think? Anyways, voting to axe!

Edit: I kinda like Drewerth's suggestion if we do keep it.

You've caught me at a considerably good time where I'm actively working on the next set of eGO plugins and reputation happens to be one of them.

I want to leave the plugin in but I'm willing to make some additional changes such as removing the chat notifications to remove the spam. This will turn the reputation system into a quieter thing that you'll have to manually check if you wanted to see yours or someone else's reputation score. I won't add public feedback reporting, though I can easily check rep logs if we really need to investigate an issue (I don't expect any to come).

I don't think removing this system or removing any logs would be a good idea.

Im not sure if this is a good idea, if someone is constantly down repping you when you join the server is it that big of an issue? As Simon said its pretty much just e points, I just dont want admins using that to see who is down repping them and then treat them differently because they dont like the admin

Yeah kuantum kuantum me and hermi had this happen to us yesterday. Not sure if it is an exploit or if it is a collaberation but either way it is not nice to have happen to you :(

I don't think removing this system or removing any logs would be a good idea, but rather just improving the current logs to show who is giving the rep, like Grounded suggested.

Showing who downs/up someone, the player would just down them right back

That used to be what would happen, when people would do !up and !down in chat, as opposed to hiding it with /down and /up

3dsam1 3dsam1 I have watched an admin get downed every time they'd join, and randomly throughout the game, even while nothing is going on. We both talk like, "Oh, and guess who's on? This player. Yup, lol" We remember the players who we gave warnings to and we know those who don't like us. We treat all players the same regardless of what they did in the past. This is their way of taking little jabs and to me at least, it feels like griefing.
kaZZ kaZZ And that's a great way to see a random's maturity level. It used to be whoever had a lot of rep, was a long-time player who was well-respected as a person in the server with people who loved their play-style/personality.

Regardless of what happens, I am fine with either choice, but just wanted to share my personal suggestion.

I'm wary on letting other players seeing who repped them, Simon Simon brings up a good point (but I guess the solution is to take their repping powers away if they abuse them). What I really think should happen is an admin-only log so if others are getting their rep absolutely destroyed, it's logged and sent to LE to review and remove the player's rep perms OR allow admins to do that on the server anyway.

dude my college wont accept me, my eGO rep is in the negatives :(

Also instead of removing powers just give the option to not receive rep so they don’t have a bad reputation for college

Man I really do not see the point in doing that. If were gonna pick and choose who gets to up and down rep, you might as well remove the whole system all together.

Life is a little bit more than your rep, and how much rep you have shouldnt affect you personally. Your rep doesnt define who you are, and i?m not gonna think of you any less if someone has less rep than me. Let?s not get too angry over this, play some games or something instead of worrying about rep

This is on game servers, but I guess it's the same difference.

Just because rep is just internet points doesn't mean it's a useless system. It's designed on the forums as a form of "I agree with your post/statement" or "I don't like this post". It works really well, but if we're going to have others just randomly carpet bomb posts or player's rep, then why don't we limit their ability to use it?

I agree that we shouldn't value it, but some users have amassed a good amount of rep, should we just disable it and say "yeah were punishing the gander for the goose" or punish the goose for being immature? This is a "mature" gaming community after all.

Rep is a number that means nothing.

We as players give that number purpose but its nothing.

I liked the idea though of having an option to not receive rep. People get carpet bombed and its kinda weird.
