Our jail system is very messed up and we need to fix it. It?s not fair to criminals that we give them 3 hours jail time to sit in a box. In that time they aren?t rping, and they can?t even AFK the time or they will get kicked. I get that we have to have jail, but the current jail system essentially punishes criminals for role playing. It hurts my heart when I have to jail a dude for 2 hours after a roleplay scene that was very clearly well thought out. Something needs to be done about the current jail system, whether it be lower times, jail breaks, bail, or have an actual prison for people to roleplay prison life in. The jail times are so high because ?they shouldn?t break the law? but we NEED criminals, otherwise what is the point of police, and high jail times makes criminals put less effort into their rp and just run so they don?t have to sit in a concrete cube for 3 hours. Please leaves thoughts on this issue below, keep it respectful please. :)

Have you thought about using police discretion and dropping some of the charges? You are allowed to do that. You can't change the times, but can drop charges.

ooh something I can pay for to not go to jail Kappa
time to pay cops to drop all charges

I’ve done this in the past with smaller charges, but I don’t think it could be done with some of the bigger charges.

+1 Already suggested myself that the prison needs to be changed. Its not nice to sit in there without rp for 3 hours and get kicked for being afk. Theres good criminal rp, and they still get "punished" by this.

I mean the best solution is for someone to apply for a judge.

Now, I won't be the one to do that because A. I'm running CCC right now B. I like being a cop and C. I'm not exactly qualified for the job. Now maybe the requirements for becoming a judge could be reduced a little because I would rather have a judge than have none. (that being said I want the judge to be good and have awesome RP)

I applied for the judge but I was told they wanted someone with real-life experience. I was also told I was the only one that applied at that time.

So in the lawbook example, it says for good RP cops can drop charges but if we look at the lawbook the minimum for some charges is 90 minutes so that still a lot of time for someone to be in jail even if he had another hour dropped off his sentence.

Sometimes cops are so slow with booking and investigating that you can be in cuffs not able to move while being harrassed by cops for up to an hour.

Example of what happened yesterday to a new person on our server. There was an attempted bank robbery and his friend killed a cop before he even got there. He pulled his weapon out on another cop to detain that cop and never fired his weapon. He got charged for 3 hours for the attempted murder of a Leo x 2 and armed robbery. That sounds more like an assault with a deadly weapon. The person that actually killed the cop only got 90 mins. He did fill out a police complaint form about this. Talking with those cops as an admin cause that guy asked for an admin and I wanted to know the whole situation. some of them were saying "I was just following orders" and others were saying they didn't know which person actually fired the weapon. They could have done GSR tests, bullet tracing. Just better RP. As an admin, I could not do anything though except educate on where to file a complaint.

I think there needs to be a general survey given to our server including cops and civs on what they think of the jail times so we can see what the general opinion is.

I know that people were exploiting to get out of jail so the smaller cells were used and some people die in jail to respawn out. I have seen on 2 other servers they have work off your time plugins where there are tasks like making license plates or other activities and each time you do one it takes a little bit of time off. maybe if we can look into something like that?

My friend got 3 ****ing hours for POINTING A GUN AT A COP. 3 HOURS!!! Its so stupid. So corrupt. Cops play on two characters and if that person does something on a different character the cop goes on his police character and if they find that criminal doing something they act so petty & use their force against them. Put them in jail for 3 hours for pointing a weapon at a cop. Since when is that 3 hours. Such a waste of time.

Like I said man, let’s keep it respectful, this isn’t a debate on cops vs. criminals, we need to come together as a community and agree on something. Not further the division between us.

Sorry just very disappointed that he has to face that. It is very corrupt in my opinion. He also faced corrupt charges that he had no foot in.

happens to the best of us, hell , it's happened to me on more than one occasion for something it maybe shouldn't have, though the last time it happened I did have a foot in it, but I managed to get out of spending 50 mins in jail

Haven't been on the FiveM server in a bit so I could be somewhat misinformed to an extent, but I agree that the current jail times aren't really the best and could use a rework. If not a rework on the times, then perhaps a rework on the prison system itself. If you're jailed you're forced to sit in a box throughout your time, nothing else, just sit in a box. Effectively the Jail systems forces you to take a timeout from RP'ing, and I see that discouraging people especially new players from wanting to play the server more.

(Could be misinformed due to me not playing in awhile, if so feel free to let me know)

if theres a cop inside the prison that can roleplay with the prisoners would be cool i would enjoy going to prison again

We're always open to new suggestions for you guys, and perhaps there is something we can look into, either in making prison a more interactive place to be or looking at how much time you receive.

The general idea however with the current lawbook is that we had a ton of rampant crime going around and people acting like there were no consequences, which back then there kinda wasn't. You could kill a cop or commit armed robbery, which are very serious felonies, and be out in 30 minutes. On top of that because it was 100% up to the officer's discretion, people could get different times for the same charges. To combat this, set minimum times were put in place to ensure everyone got more equal treatment, with the higher times encouraging criminals to put more thought into committing said serious crimes.

As Summer said however, officers do have the power to drop charges as they see fit. LE will monitor this thread to get your guys' opinions and we'll talk alternatives.

I understand that we have to jail people for crimes and stuff, but 30 minutes for any charges seems a bit much. IMO jail times should be based on the effort of RP like they used to be, good roleplay should be rewarded by low times to encourage criminals not to run and gun 24/7. It was officer discretion for the longest time and I never saw anyhting wrong with it, and never saw anybody really complain because most officers used good judgement and gave everyone low times unless the rp was bad, then youd get slightly more, Officer's should be trained to use good judgement on jail times like they were previously, PD is whitelisted for a reason. As for the minimum times, they are too high and barely give any room for officer discretion.

Jail times are great imo. People should just be allowed to serve their time offline or whilst playing another character. There could be a character limit if not already aswell. We know money and assets don't transfer so that could discourage someone who intends to be toxic and disrupt the server with constantly committing violent crime from doing so. The continuous violent crimes have decreased significantly in frequency since the new sentencing was implemented and calling for a full reversal of that is asking to invite all the frequent running and gunning. Implementing a full justice system, an interactive jail with an ability to afk or logout, and encouraging more quality interaction other than shooting and driving from civs would curb the problems everyone is complaining about. This would take a long term commitment from many people on the server but simply reversing what is already in place will not change any of that in a positive way. It won't increase roleplay interactions, it won't deter constant violent crimes, it won't do anything positive besides make people feel better about destroying everything in their path. We all know how inconsistent sentences were when many officers would jail certain people. Hunter Bryson could get a ticket for shooting a cop or he could get put in jail for 3 hours for the same thing. That's not an exaggeration in any way and we all know it.

The old system generated a lot of complaints, because that system had no basis, Joe would get 60 months in jail and his friend Bill would get 20 months, because Bill's booking officer was in a good mood and liked Bill. It was unfair and that system had to go. The new system still allows for officers to drop charges, however because they drop charges instead of just winging the time, there is at least a basis so criminals can know roughly how long they'll be serving. This system also discourages favoritism to a degree.

And to touch on what Wodie mentioned, we are looking into acquiring a Judge, it's most certainly in our scope of things to come soon. Once the big PD changes are in, this is something we want to finally get in. We know it's been a while, but we're confident this is something that can be done now.

As usual, we're always looking at the bigger goal and seeing how we can advance the server towards higher quality RP and an overall better experience for everyone. These things are usually extremely time consuming, so as usual, we're very appreciative to you guys who wait patiently and bring these points up.
