New Hardware RAM upgrade

Opinions on an upgrade from 800 mhz 8gb RAM to 16gb 2133 mhz RAM (DDR3).
Also adding a 500gb SSD.

Reason for the upgrade - to run Rust better.

redchance what model CPU and motherboard? This will determine if you're actually able to run that frequency of RAM.

Current system:
Motherboard - asus msa99fx pro r2.0
CPU - amd fx 6350
RAM - 2x4gb 800 mhz

I want to run 4x4gb RAM

Looks like that CPU calls for 1866MHz memory max, unless you start pushing things redchance

800Mhz is insanely slow to start with as well. Minimum for that board was really 1066.

You'll want to find some used RAM for this one - shouldn't be overly hard to. But last time I looked for DDR3 around that speed new, the prices were crazy lol.

Rust is also a very GPU and CPU intensive game, this isn't flex seal its more like duct tape

I can drop roughly 40-60 for 2 4gb cards at 1866 mhz. So mostly likely $120 max to make thd upgrade. And yeah I know 800 mhz is slow asf. Thats why im upgrading.

Used I can easily pick the upgrade for $70-$80. New I can get it for about $120 maybe $100 if I look hard enough

I would be doubtful about finding that price new for the RAM.

Keep in mind by the way, you need to replace all 4 sticks. If you put 2 more in at 1866, they will downclock themselves to match the incredibly low frequency RAM you already have.

i made that mistake when building my pc two builds ago. i grabbed two boxes off the shelves back when COMP USA was a thing and didnt notice the back box was different mhz.

i was like 'what in the ****????'

Ric Yep! I did my build in late 2012...bought 8GB to start, went back a few days later... had mixed 1336/1666 for the entire time i owned that machine, friend has the computer now and its still like that haha.

I'll drop a few links if you think Im crazy. The upgrade is actually legit that cheap. Ebay for used, Amazon for new. Although one of them was a limited time deal.
