Selfhosting website

Anyone have experience with LAMP servers and self hosting websites. It seems like the better option from everyone I've heard is to just pay for webhosting since most of them have way better tools than you'd get doing it yourself. Besides, my apache server doesn't want to talk to my php server and my sql server is just dead in the water. This is why I don't like docker haha

If it's just for you to mess around with yourself, go for it. If it's even remotely any sort of production site, get a VPS or webhosting and save headaches, security, your ISP possibly hating you and cutting you off, etc.

It's really really cheap to get basic webhosting or a lower end VPS.

The hosting part isn't the issue, the web hosts just seemed more attractive because you make everything through them not having to setup everything yourself heh

I have a server already ready to throw it on I just need to get the lemp part setup

Yes, I was asking if anyone has experience setting up lemp/lamp servers. Sorry I forgot a question mark haha

I got some help from other friends so I switched over to nginx and it seems to be going a lot better now. I just wanted to make this thread to see what road bumps other people have gone through so I would know what to expect

You only really have to buy the domain when making a website. Everything else can be done yourself (including hosting) from Linux

Wasn't going too pretty in my testing. Haven't touched it in a while though now that college started up
