Hey all, so ive been keeping on eye on this MSI Tomahawk Max motherboard as it seems to be very popular & now that Newegg has it back in stock, I would like to get some feedback on whether I should go for that motherboard or maybe switch to another one. Also I would like to know why that particular motherboard seems to be very popular?

Since I don’t know what motherboard it is, generally mid range ones with good amounts of features are the most bought and highest reviewed. To add to this people like buying things with lots of reviews.

That looks like a good board, it’s just a tiny bit out dated. The next generation of that chipset recently came out, b550. Most motherboards with this chipset will be taking advantage of the additional ryzen pcie lanes so they’ll have better io and an additional m.2 slot.

This one for example is about $50 more and has an additional m.2 slot, usb 3.2 ports, a 2.5gig nic, and a lot more nice to haves. I would definitely recommend going up to a b550 motherboard.

Hey all, so I apologize again if you are in the dark about what I have already purchased. So I did order a Ryzen 5 2600 along with a WD SN 750 500gb nvme ssd. The ssd is the main reason I wanted to go after the motherboard, but I wasnt sure if the B550 would work with my setup. Ill definitely have to take a look into that for sure now.

DO NOT buy b550 with a 2600 its totally unnecessary as it can't support the main feature of b550 which is gen 4.

Why yikes? I used built in wifi on an Asus board for years without issue. Had a magnet mount antenna, was fine going through a few walls in my parents house. They mostly have external antennas I thought.
Hey guys I appreciate the idea of a motherboard with wifi support, but its not needed as I have a router next to me. Ive wired the whole house so that my moms desktop & mine are both connected via ethernet. I wanted to make sure that neither of us had any issues in terms of signal, especially since both machines are on opposite sides of the house (its a 2 story house which makes sending a signal even worse). However I am open to the idea of upgrading the AMD cpu to a slightly newer one in order to have more chances at getting a good quality motherboard. If theres 1 company I wont go after its ASUS (this is just based on a personal, but picky choice).

If you are going to shoot for a newer AMD processor and you don't want a ROG board, I would recommend this one for $140 or this one for $150 with lights.

I doubt they will support next gen ryzen on b450 or x470 due to bois sizeThe motherboards are future proof, if he does decide to upgrade to a newer ryzen processor in the future a bios update is all it takes
