so i know somewhat about graphics cards, but i was wondering.... what is the best graphics card, for a price range of $300-$400 (or a little more, depending on comparisons)... because i know that some do better than others... but is there really a difference between a $300 card and a $500 card?

EDIT: i did look at Tom's Hardware, but they did not have the 9 series i believe on their charts... unless i did not see it.. but i just want advice here :P
 
nVidia 9600GT 512 megs, SLi the thing if you got the money. Its currently around 200 for the 9600gt.
 
I would check out the 9800 GTX, The price will vary alot but it was definately worth it for me. People say it is just a revision of the 8800, but I strongly disagree. It has a higher FPS rate and runs smoother if you get the new drivers. Make sure your power supply can handle it, I recommend at least 600 watts to be safe.
 
You can get a Nivida 9800 GTX for about 300-400$, and you can get a GX2 for i think somewhere around 500$, But isn't much better.

And, Why is everyone saying Nivida has the best cards, ATI is good too,
 
nvidia will be releasing a new chip soon, June I believe, the GT200. I'd wait to see how that performs other than that I think a 8800gt 512 X 2 sli setup would serve well or 9800 gtx sli setup. I don't want to sound like an Nvidia fan boy, but I am. I really like how quick Nvidia is to release drivers for new games as well as ATI seem to heat up a lot more.
 
ATI is releasing their RV770 as well. For the best price/performance, don't look anywhere other than ATI.

Yes, Nvidia has the BEST cards out, but they cost an arm, leg, first born, and virginity.

Between $300-$400? The ATI Radeon 3870x2. If you can, wait a few weeks and get the new series from Nvidia or ATI.

And stop suggesting the 9600 series guys. All it is is a rebranded 8 series with a higher price tag. The 8800GT will be much cheaper and perform the same.

ive looked into it... and i decided im going to go with a higher price tag, but at the same time SLI the beasts. i know that one ATI card is good, but its is also 10.5" long, and i like the sound of a GX2... or GX2 x2... lol.. yes the better card is ATI, but like Jmar, im and nVidia fanboy... im on their train, and until something SPECTACULAR comes out from ATI, i wont be getting off that train in a long time
 
idk yet... ill see with the new cards, and then ill go from there... and besides it will be like 2 months for me to decide till i actually get the money for the pc... so there will be better stuff out there
