iPhone issue.

Last night during regular use of my iPhone 8 Plus, my screen.."exploded" in a sense? I don't really know how to explain this.

I was doing something on it and the screen suddenly appeared with lines everywhere, to the point I couldn't use it. I was able to swipe left and right, but it didn't matter because I couldn't see the screen. Randomly, the screen would appear but would be upside down and reversed.

I got a new iPhone 12 today..but I'm curious to what happened? I'm not too tech savvy with phones.

A note to mention is I did break the screen last month by mistake and took it to get it repaired..Could the screen repair have been faulty?

It's very interesting actually.

So for very small devices with screens, they are attached to the mainboard via a small and delicate ribbon cable. These cables aren't sturdy, so dropping your phone, running with it, or doing a vigorous activity will degrade the cable over time. It's fixable if you want to pay someone to replace the cable or check the connections.

Now, there's also the chance of a defective screen, latent hardware issues, software issues, etc., but typically that's less common and the fact that the display is responding to touches probably would make that chance even slimmer.

EDIT: Those ribbon cables might also be soldered on to the mainboard. If that's damaged, good luck.

Thanks. That helps a lot. Since I got a new iPhone anyways..I think I’m gonna look online at tutorials on how to repair it. I do not want to pay someone to fix it again.

I wish you luck, but be careful. Apple products are not the easiest things to repair especially with how anti-right-to-repair they are.

Just updating you since you took time to respond and explain. That ribbon was at fault so I bought a new one, replaced it, and everything is good to go.

I would just take it to a tech store to repair, like kuantum said these things might not be the easiest to repair with no experience.

but Always give it a shot since you might find a new hobby.

or sell the scrap parts for cash and save that money.

For all sorts of repairs, I suggest first arming urself with the right tools. Check out iFixit. They are VERY helpful with giving you the tools to repair your device on your own, and even have toolkits that I'd say are second to none. Kuantum sounds right on the money with diagnosing the problem. Those ribbon cables are especially finiky.

Word of caution; when it comes to apple, putting aside bias, THEY WILL SCREW YOU, if you are not careful.
I've heard & witnessed horror stories of Apple and AAR's charging hundreds for nothing more than a bent ribbon cable, which simply just needed reinserted. Your best bet is to take it somewhere YOU PERSONALLY TRUST, or repair it urself.
