Long story short, Chem 1 is kicking my ass. Literally feel like shit with the way things are going. I'm struggling hard with reactions in aqueous solutions, stoichiometric conversions, combustion analysis, concentration and molarity especially. Even though I did well in high school chem, all this stuff seems just so janky.

For those of you who've gone through the class, how'd you pull through? I need advice. Thankfully this is the only Chem class I have to take for my major, but it's pain rn bros.

Don't know why I came here to ask but every time I've done so here it's panned out well.

Talk to the Professor and Get a Tutor. Seriously, DOUBLE DOWN!! Do whatever it takes.

Don't wait till the end start now.

I have gone through most of the Chemistry courses for my major and can assure you the easiest way to learn the material is via practice. I usually learn very little from lectures and have found the best way to master the material is via Supplemental Instruction. Which is basically the TA hosting weekly sessions reviewing the material. I am sure your college has something similar would definitely look more into it.

Concentration and molarity should be easy points on any exam and will definitely be tested frequently.

Don't feel hopeless yet!! You got this :) Just find a study method that works and talk to your professor !!

I never took Chem (ARCH major), but let me tell you, tutoring, study groups with people in the same class (I'm assuming there's a group me), and OFFICE HOURS. Seeing the professor during Office hours is super helpful for asking questions about the content/studying. I highly recommend doing that. Also I'm sure you know this but persistence is important. Don't leave studying for one or two days a week, try to spread it out throughout the week(s). A lot of the connections your brain makes when learning is done while you're sleeping; adequate rest is important.

Hey guys, thank you for your responses.

I've taken the initiative and created a few study groups with some of our students. For the most part, we're teaching ourselves off of Organic Chemistry Tutor and Melissa Maribel. This seems to have been helpful thus far, most of us ended up narrowly passing our exam so it worked out ig.

I also noticed that some of you suggested meeting with the TA, so I thought I'd explain that situation. He's a nice guy, a fellow student and all, but the problem is he isn't well-versed in chemistry and he's taking the class again with us. We've tried meeting with him but each time, we get the same response: "search it up." He's failed the class thrice, and that qualifies him how??? But yeah, thank y'all.

what you learning about?

(biochem major)
Just first-level general chemistry. Stoichiometry, aqueous solutions, etc. I'm a CompSci major so this is the only Chem class I'm taking.
