Unable to get fast wifi

So I have a wifi usb adapter and it claims to get up to 150mbps, yeah its bad but I didn't buy it.

I have a download speed of 40-55mbps with the wifi adapter and over 250 with an ethernet cable, My router is literally 15 feet away from me with just one door in between the router and my pc. The wifi adapter I have is this:

I don't want to buy a new wifi adapter, but are there any solutions in making the stick atleast get above 100mbps? or atleast double my download speed.

I hate to be "that guy" but you really do either need a new wifi adapter or use an ethernet cable. You won't get that adapter to 100mbps in a real world setting.

That's an 802.11n adapter. Specifically, one rated for 150mbps. Which is very common. The 150mbps is under perfect conditions (highly unlikely) and at full duplex.

Now for the unfortunate part, wifi is half duplex. This means that even with every other perfect condition you would get at most 75mbps of usable speed. With overhead and interference you're looking at a closer 60-70mbps usable.

I'm guessing your router won't have many advanced features available, but if it does you could try upping the power off the antenna. You should also be able to go into control panel and up the power on the wifi adapter on your computer. If your home isn't too big you could even bump the 2.4ghz channel to 40mhz width (Probably just ignore this).

So in the end, you are really reaching full speeds that the adapter is capable of. You would want to use an ethernet adapter to get all of the speed available, or get a new ac or preferably ax adapter. The router also factors in here, if it's also 802.11n then it will need to be upgraded as well to get 250mbps over wifi.

Edit: Best route is probably to just get a 25-30ft ethernet cord off amazon and hide it in the seam of the wall and floor

I was using a ethernet cable but removed it cause it was going over the floors. I'm going to try and do something about that but for now I am stuck with a bad wifi adapter.

You should check out power line adapters, which use the wiring of your home as an ethernet cable. I got one last summer and it has been working great!

Sorry to also be that guy, but Nick is right. You're shit out of luck. You'll never get 100+ out of that adapter. It's just not going to happen and the cheapest "fix" is to buy a new one that can properly get the speeds you want out of it. Or just run a Cat6 cable... hardwired is always better
