Vista boot problems

Hi all,

I recently bought a vista laptop, and it came with Vista Enterprise Edition. As soon as I got it, I had a few issues with it, and it refused to boot (system file missing or corrupted). I fixed that issue by using the recovery disk, however, now, EVERY OTHER TIME I boot up the laptop, it gives a blue screen of death.

Yes, that's right, every other time. I will boot it up, and there will be a blue screen error saying
STOP: c0000145 {Application Error}
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

And that's it. When I reboot AGAIN, it boots fine. Anyone have a solution?

That sounds like a memorry problem to me.. Do you have more than one stick?

It Probably has more than 1 stick, cause it came with 3GB. I'm going to try running memtest now.


But why does it boot sometimes and not others? and especially, why exactly EVERY OTHER TIME?! It's just confusing the hell out of me.

At times, sticks of RAM can lose contact with tbe slot it's in... If you move them around this usually squares the problem.. I've had a similar problem where sometimes it would boot but normally would get the BSOD. This resolved my issue.. Let me know if it helps you out..

Oh, if you are unsure about where/how to do this task please take the laptop to someone who does.. I would feel sick if you messed it up further based on my advice.

Ok thanks alot Sc0rned, I've built desktops before, am I right in thinking that laptop Ram is no different? (slot loaded?) I guess I should probaby read up on it from the manual before taking anything apart.

BTW, I ran the Windows Mem test, and it didn't find anything wrong, so I'm running MemTest86 now to make sure.

Ok, MemTest86 reported no problems wrong...

I'm gonna have to open 'er up and take a peek I guess..
