Understand with all the bugs and readying for release this is low priority, but we had a really enjoyable investigation last night involving a crime committed earlier in the day and evidence leading to an arrest, the current evidence system is fun, but we thought about ways to make it better and more balanced
Goal: Modify Evidence System to continue to allow for more mechanical investigation based RP while allowing Seasoned Criminals opportunities to clean scenes.

contributors: Lucas7Yoshi,3dsam, CrypticStrolski

We want to maintain a level of risk associated with cleaning scenes to ensure a healthy balance, timeline listed in the below suggestions will likely need to be iterated on to reach a happy medium.

The Primary scene this is reviewing to balance is Bank Truck Robberies, it should be an option for a highly experience crew to clean the scene and leave as police arrive if everything is executed perfectly, goal of the timings below is to have the scene cleaning from a group of 4 end around the time as the money is completed being collected. [Although i do think there is merit in a suggestion that these should be slightly harder]

Review of Current Evidence System:
  1. Tier levels of evidence (hot, warm, cold; fresh, old, aged)
  2. Evidence can be destroyed after 5 minutes
  3. Evidence can be picked up only by police
  4. Evidence can be ran by forensics practically immediately at MRPD to produce named results
  5. Bullet casings return name of shooter, not gun owner (possible bug reported at: https://www.edgegamers.com/threads/367663/)

Bullet Evidence Suggestion
  • Make total time to pick up bullet 15 seconds
    • Reduce waiting time to 10 seconds
  • Require a 5 second pickup animation to pick up bullet (Idea here is to compensate for the flashlight giving you easy access to exact location)
  • Have bullets stored in pockets instead of destroyed (if suspect is later caught this allows us to regain the evidence)
    • If bullets cannot be stored in pockets increase waiting time to 15 seconds with a 5 second pickup animation
Blood Evidence Suggestions:
  • Option 1: Minigame - Total Time 45 seconds
    • Require “cleaning” blood to take 45 seconds
    • Require Player cleaning blood to attempt mini-game to successfully clean (requires some skill to fully clean)
      • Failure of Minigame results in some consequence such as:
        • Blood still returns to player
        • Forensics lists multiple possible matches
        • Some level of uncertainty that can be fought in court but allows for investigation
        • A percentage chance the blood does not result in a match at forensics lab
  • Option 2: 1 Cleaning Tools - Total Time 1 Minute to 5 Minutes
    • 5 Minutes to Clean Blood Up
    • 1 Minute to Clean Blood Up if the user has a special tool (e.g. Cleaning Supplies, Chemicals, Bleach, ec)
  • Option 3: Simply Reduce Time
    • 2 minutes to clean blood
    • Require 1 minute before cleaning can begin, 1 minute animation for cleaning

I have brought this up the rest of the GTA Leadership team and we will be discussing it on the Leadership level. Be on the lookout for a response to this thread describing the issues that may have arisen.

We appreciate this and all the other suggestions you have provided. Keep up the great work!

Can I add to this the suggestion that there be an additional timer placed on the evidence forensic testing, can be an hour or more, BUT also make the logs that are in the evidence storage show the name of the officer that submitted them, time and date in the list.

OH and the freshness of blood and heat of the shells on pickup should be included in the report/determine a time on scene before picked up.

If I could add to this, I don't think shells should come back to a name at all... it's ridiculous to pick up a bullet and trace it back to an exact person like that. A suggestion I can make is when the bullet is picked up, it can be traced to a specific firearm instead.

In real life, the rifling pattern along with any microscopic markings are analyzed on a bullet, and when a gun is recovered and test fired, the markings on the known bullet and evidence bullet are compared.

To cut back from the testing period, the bullet can list the serial number of the gun that it's fired from. The serial number can be traced back to the owner, and the owner can be questioned and possibly arrested if there is extra evidence.

I'm not sure how good the firearm serial number tracking is right now as we are still in testing and I do not have an LEO character so I do not know exactly how evidence is collected and what is said, but I could help out a bit more if anyone wants to reach out. My discord is wasabielf#3353

There is an active effort being made to revitalize this system, due to complications with switching to the new inventory we have faced some issues, but we are recovering and there will be a fix made to this soon.
