Monitor Is Blank

Recently, my monitor has been going blank in games. It's doing this in DoD:S and CSS, and possibly others.. but I don't play any other games. When it goes blank, if I quit the game or alt tab out.. the screen comes back.

The monitor is brand new, only two months old. It's a LCD Acer 19" X193W. Someone on another forum said my GPU might be overheating, but I have a temperature display on the front of my PC. It says 33.7 Celsius, which is only 90 something degrees faranheit I believe.. and I think that's a normal temperature for a PC.

Any help would be appreciated.

What OS (Operating System) are you using?

Vista? XP?

XP Professional SP3. It appears that the problem might be my video card, I tested another monitor on the PC and its screen was blank also.. yet it works over here on this PC.

Now the screen is blank the entire time, not just for games.. when I turn the PC on, the monitor stays blank the whole time..

Does this mean it's my video card? I'm on another PC now.

It could possibly be your vid card, the temp monitor on the fron of the PC is probably the abient temprature inside your case.

you can download Rivatuner and see the temprature of your Video card, if you can get to that atleast if you can see what your doing and if your temp is too high, riva tuner can also let you adjust your fan speed on the card manually. mine was overheating really bad. causeing some serious FPS drop in game too... I cranked the fan up to just before it gets too loud and been running cool ever since.

Other then that I would usually say things like... update your drivers lately? make sure the refresh rates and stuff are within your monitors specs things like that...

I can't do anything like that though.. the screen is blank the entire time, I can't even login to Windows.

I opened my PC, and cleaned the fans, etc. It was pretty dusty, but the problem is still occurring. My video drivers were up-to-date, and I had the refresh rate at the lowest possible setting, 60.

How would I adjust the fan speed on the card "manually"?

I took my video card out, and put it back in.. the monitor is still blank. My video card is a Nvidia GeForce 7300GT, has it died?

Possible...see if you can borrow another PCI-E gpu and try to fire up the comp with the monitor attached. If it works with that GPU 10:1 says you have got gfx issues.

As a side note...most aftermarket temp sensors are not very accurate. The best way to determine temp is from the bios for the CPU and from GPU-Z for your gfx.

I don't have any other video card to test it with.. the PC I'm on now has an integrated GPU.

do you have divx or cccp installed? It could be those codex if you do have them... if this is the problem you may want to try to reinstall them.

I think I had divx installed, but how am I am supposed to uninstall it? I can't do anything with a screen that's blank the entire time.

I don't see how it'd be divx though, this problem just started occurring two days ago, and I believe I got divx months ago.. I tested another working monitor, and it was blank too.

is it persistantly blank? i.e. you don't get any image on screen anymore when you boot it? if so then I would hazard that the card is shot. Otherwise...

I had a problem for a while with my cccp codex where after i played something that used the divx codex the media player would go blank and only after i restarted the driver did it work again.

The problem could have arrisen if you recently installed new video drivers. It could be an in compatability with the divx drivers... All I can say is that it isn't going to hurt to try and reinstall the divx drivers. See what it does.

Yes, it is persistently blank.. the screen is blank the entire time, and never shows up.

I can't uninstall anything with a blank screen. I don't think it's any driver problems either, because this just started happening two days ago.. and I haven't recently installed any drivers.

I think the card is shot, because I tested another monitor too and got the same result.

Any suggestions for a new video card? I don't have much cash.
