haha you know you and i have argued alot about this... but from my point... i like the ATI card better

but from a technical spec, i would take the GX2

I <3 Nvidia but I've never been let down by my ATI cards. So i honestly don't know. Given thatguy's comments i may actually go with the 3870x2 m'self. But my gut would tell me to go for the 9800x2.

Current world record on 3dMark is set by the 3870X2. Nuff said.

 And maybe next time when you make a thread like this, give the specs on them and give links so people aren't just going off of Nvidia or ATI, or what picture is the biggest. :P

I think that it completely depends on what you are using your GPU for. Obviously on these forums you will more than likely be using a GPU for gaming, in which case I would probably go with an Nvidia card with an AMD CPU. However, the ATI cards are incredibly user friendly, multi-monitors are a breeze, hooking up to the TV couldn't be easier and with an Intel CPU, you can do multi-media or photoshopping so much better.

Personally, I don't like Nvidia drivers and their poor support (at least in my experience and close friends experiences). Therefore, my vote is ATI.

What did I just say? Nvidia FTW. PERIOD!!

Just because you say "PERIOD!!" doesn't mean your right and the discussion stops there. Im REALLY getting tired of Nvidia Vs. ATI and crap like this now mostly because no matter what anyone says, its still "Nvidia FTW". Im not even gonna argue. Bottom line, if you like ATI/Nvidia, dont try to force YOUR favorite company down there throats if they don't like them. If you like a company over the other, thats just great! Thats just fine!

You gave a good point, Nvidia and AMD is a good combo for a gaming computer. ATI cards like to make cards and other products that are more practical for things like what you said and so is Intel for processing acts. ATI cards are still great gaming for the price. (If you don't want to spend as much on a Nvidia Card)

Haha. Yeah, your right. But until the 4870 X2 is out and if it actually does outperform the GTX 280 in SLI i'd say stick with Nvidia if you can afford it. I read that ATI is good with the image quality but Nvidia has more performance. Also, Nvidia lowers the quality of water in games. So it is all up to you.

You really should try the card yourself before you bash one brand over another. Reviews only tell you so much. Personal preference could be an entirely different matter. I used Nvidia at first and loved it. But when i had to upgrade i tried out ATI and loved it to death. One card lasted me 3 years. Yeah wasn't the cream of the crop but it definately held its own without strain.

I'd love to give both of them a shot in personal gaming. I get this feeling that the actual difference in either card is pretty nominal when you get right down to it and more than likely hardly noticeable to any one casual gamer. Which is why we use products like 3dMark6 to tell us if our card is OMGWTFBBQAMAZING.

Well here is what i believe... Once you get to a certain point with video cards, you can only go so far, and the only thing you can really do is increase frame rate. But if you go farther than that point, its just overkill. From the point of 60-100 fps, can you really tell a difference? and dont say yes, cause your false. And when the cards are so close in performance (ex. 34 fps vs 36 fps in Crysis) does it really matter that much to go with a card that is "overkilled" Yeah it will help you in the future, but when will that future be? just think about it....

The 9800GX2 out preforms the ATI. I have a 98GX2 and I love it. Even hoping to get a second one for complete overkill.
