how to create my own server

hey i found the team fortress 2 dedicated server tool.... i set one up...but Fuse could not see my server

he said, it said that the server was not responding


any help?

Sounds like port settings to me, did you forward all the ports you needed in your router?

i dont think i have a router. i have modem

Some people dont have routers, i didnt always. I don't really know what to say, if used to happen on my CS:S server but it started working some how. Sorry for not knowing what to tell you.

make sure windows firewall isnt blocking the program or any AV software, make sure the server is internet, check your real ip at www.ipchicken.com

well for the most part it sounds like ports... you don't have a router... well... what's the IP of your computer?

If it's along the lines of 192.168.1.1 or something similiar... then your modem has a bult in router.. if it matches the IP you get at say www.ipchicken.com then your directly connected and it might be more of a firewall thing.


I'm basically just shooting ideas at you to help. I know nothing about TF2, or any other Vavle game sorry.

There are a number of possible culprits...

- bad server configuration
- firewall blocking access to ports
- router/port forwarding config issues

Unfortunately, without you having some knowledge on how to debug these issues, you're not going to get far... We can't figure it out on this end, we can only guess and cross our fingers. If you don't know how your home network is laid out, and can't configure it yourself, any advice I give is likely to sound like gibberish.

ie, to check your port forwarding settings, you need to login to your router (or perhaps modem, if your modem has one built-in) using the username and password you set up when you installed your network. Then find the port forwarding properties page, (varies by manufacturer and model) and make sure that the dedicated server's port (27015 by default) is forwarded to the IP address of the computer running the dedicated server.

Did any of that make sense?
