Windows 11 Reveal/Thoughts

If you haven't seen it already, Windows 11 got revealed today

Thoughts?

I think it might be interesting, but I still want an option for my UI to be like 7/10. I'll probably install a preview on a VM and check it out once those hit the pipeline, see how it is.

Yeah, If I want a mac, I'll either buy one or make my own while that's still viable. I just want my win 10 ui to be in there as an option, even if I have to use regedit to make it work. Though I do see the appeal in making it more friendly to touchscreens/laptops, though I don't want my PC to feel like my phone.

I feel like it's still going to kill your ram, maybe just not as much as I'm assuming it's going to be run using WSL, it's still going to allocate at least a bit of ram so it can keep the VM fed. Using WSL 2.0 on my laptop, it reserves 966mb of ram on idle with Kali, your mileage may vary.

I feel like it's still going to kill your ram, maybe just not as much as I'm assuming it's going to be run using WSL, it's still going to allocate at least a bit of ram so it can keep the VM fed. Using WSL 2.0 on my laptop, it reserves 966mb of ram on idle with Kali, your mileage may vary.

I keep getting flashbacks of people wanting to keep their UI looking like XP when Vista/7 came out. lol. What if Win 11's UI is a vast improvement over 10's?

I used Vista for the longest time, then 8.1, and finally on to 10. I used 8.1's fullscreen start menu for the longest time and even kept it on 10 until I started using Open shell.
I still prefer the classic start menu from older versions now, but if it's a vast improvement in 11 and I enjoy it once preview builds are published, I'll admit it. I can only say that I don't like what's been shown off so far, it's still in development and can change.

Also, 7 is of course outdated in terms of UI, it came out in 2009. Things change, code gets improved, visuals get fancier. Though for the time, it was well designed compared to my experience with Vista, I thought it looked really nice. I'm not saying it has to be an exact copy of 7's UI, I just want the start menu and taskbar to be similar since that's what I know I like.
 
The ui change could have just been a new feature update, the under the hood changes are the big part

the big ones ive seen so far were the new framework for running android apps and the new support for intels tiger lake cpus that have the different cores

I'm pretty sure that the Amazon App implementation on 11 is just going to be optimized WSL, instead of a true VM, which is still really cool. The Amazon App store being default, not as cool but at least you can sideload. We also don't know what version of android is going to be run, so app compatibility might be interesting.

And yes, Tiger Lake support/ big, little core support will be interesting if more ARM support is in the future, we might have tiny laptops with ARM SOC's like Chromebooks. The future will be interesting for sure.

I do honestly wish they would allow more customization like the days of 7 and previous versions. I do miss some of the amazing themes you could use with Windowblinds.
 
Doesn't really feel like Windows but certainly some new features that are worth trying, definitely going to be upgrading and seeing how it compares to Windows 10.
 
hell yea i love using my laptop that i dont have

prolly gonna ride out windows 10 till the end of service like i did with win xp and win 7
 
Loaded just fine on a 7 year old laptop, runs BC2 and I have had no issues to date. Now if I can just get my desktop "Qualified".
 
Windows 11 is almost certainly trying to emulate the feel and looks of newer* operating systems such as OSX or Ubuntu, where a good bit of the focus is on the user design; this is likely an attempt to sap back some of the market they've lost to other Operating Systems. Internally, probably very little is going to change.

I have personally always prefered the Windows-rigid business look. It's easy to navigate. I use OSX at work and I hate how animated everything is.
