The jailbreak server was just on spy_vs_spy and I was being a chad CT main breaking the vent from armory as soon as I heard the Ts knife it in main cells. But, even for me this felt unbalanced. I wanted to confirm what the rule was and this is what I found:
As a guard, you must NOT ...
  • damage vents or go into them unless you hear/see/suspect a prisoner has gone through
I think it would be much better if it was worded in a way that forced the CT to have a real reason to pursue the vent. Maybe something like this:
As a guard, you must NOT ...
  • damage vents or go into them unless you see/have proof a prisoner has gone through (includes seeing an opened vent/secret activated)
An example of how this might change gameplay is on spy_vs_spy, a CT would have to check cell 1 or 7 to see if the vent was opened before breaking another entrance to it and pursuing. I think this would help balance things out and give less situations where CTs are considered camping for last guard just because they're pursuing a vent they heard open or a secret activated across the map (i.e. dojo).

Great post

Eh, I can see the appeal of this as a T, but I think for MOST maps, hearing vents break and pursuing them isn't much of an issue for T's.

I think a good balance would be on the sound of the bent being broken, not being hit, they are separate sounds. II could see it being a lil cheese if a T had like TP secret, and some other T hits the vent but doesn't break it, and then CTs pursue even the vent isn't broken.

i dont think you understand what not pursuing vents from armory on spyvspy does. it guarantees multiple ts getting into armory, which is enough to end the round whenever someone good gets vent cell. do you want cts to camp armory until they get confirmation from another ct they have looked at the open vent? whats the point when you can hear a distinct sound for the vent being broken ? this would just create confusion
why do you use dojo as an example too? nothing u suggested changes anything about the way dojo is played as scout secret can be seen from spawn, and people would already be pursing vent regardless of sound queues being allowed

CTs should not be pursuing vents if it is not broken in the first place. In other words, hearing a vent being broken does not warrant a CT to pursue it. You must see/hear that the vent has been fully broken before pursuing them.

You should not be pursuing vents if you only hear the prisoners knifing it. The rule you put here specifically says "a prisoner has gone through" meaning that the prisoner is physically in the vents. Just because you hear a vent being broken does not mean it is completely broke and open. You must see/hear that the vent has been fully broken before pursuing them.

I do recognize that spy v spy in particular is a very unique case since you can hear the vents breaking from armory. From my experience, the vent is usually completely broken by the time CTs have guns anyways.

I do not believe that is how the current general interpretation of the rule is on the servers. Currently, any time any vents are being broken (ie not necessarily fully broken), CTs believe they are allowed to pursue them. I've heard the rules are being revised and this would be a good thing to get clarification on. For now, however, a quick yes/no from an AT would be great.

spy v spy is being played in a way that no matter what a CT or two is going into vent from armory. If anything, there should be an exception made about the ‘hearing’ for that map. In my opinion, guards should have to check the vent cells (there’s only two options, it’ll add 5-10 seconds overall) before going into that armory vent.

Like I said, spy v spy presents a pretty unique situation. Unless both vents cannot be opened, or nobody spawns in the vent cell, there are very few rounds on spy v spy that the vent is not opened within 5 seconds of the round start. Are there situations where CTs probably pursue the vent when it still has to be hit 1 more time to break? Yes. Is there anything we can do to stop it? Not really. Its usually a matter of a second or less difference. If we were that nit picky the entire server would be banned.

Also - we can see logs for when a vent if broken. If a CT is consistently breaking and entering the vents through armory on spy v spy before the Ts have fully broken the vent, that is something that can be handled easily and is clearly displayed in logs.

-1, this would make rebelling way too easy. If you know CTs are pursuing vents that aren't broken, and are bothered by it, you can always go into spec for a bit and try to record a clip of whichever CT is breaking that rule and send it to admins. But making it to where CTs can't pursue even if they heard a vent fully break, especially on maps like peanut and spy v spy, there would literally be multiple rebellers in armory every round, which would make the game less fun for both sides. What's the point of rebelling if it's literally free every round? Way more satisfying IMO being a more active T player to have to be strategic and take risks to rebel, rather than get into armory for free basically if I get spawned in a vent cell.

Hearing a vent being broken (even if it's not fully broken) is enough for a guard to pursue vents with suspicion.

After discussing with LE we do not plan on adding this change.

CT's are already struggling with getting wins during the round. Adding this change will only make the T's stronger than they already are.

Hearing a vent being broken (even if it's not fully broken) is enough for a guard to pursue vents with suspicion.
Please refer to what sopheyy sopheyy said. This is the current interpretation to the rule.
