I'm pretty hopeful for this to turn out well. What are your thoughts?

The director is Denis Villeneuve, the same guy who directed Sicario and Blade Runner 2049. I think he's got a directing style that would fit well in this franchise.

Has anyone seen this yet? I see that Hans Zimmer composed it so it's probably a good movie. And the acting in it seems academy award-worthy if done right.

Dune has such difficult content to fully produce for the screen, which is why it's either been a very long movie or a mini series. Book form has been the undisputed best way, but I have hope for this movie. I've actually enjoyed large parts of the screen versions and compare them to each other and the books.

"Jordorowsky's Dune"

Has anyone ever seen this documentary about what was to be the production of the original Dune? It's amazing how many very familiar if not iconic sci-fi movies it influenced even though it was never made. This is not the David Lynch production. This is by Alejandro Jordorowsky who organized the production but never got to actually make the movie. I think it would've rivaled Star Wars.

Visually cool, really liked how the worms were shown. Hated that a lot of stuff was cut from it though. Not gonna go through it due to spoilers, but I found it only had the major plot points and was just a rundown of half the story. I understand why they stopped at roughly the middle, but dislike the change and lack of important scenes. I can't get much into the sound and music as I watched it with some cheap speakers, so it probably would've enriched the experience. Really did wish the movie had the big liet-kynes scene.

I agree with all of what you said, and especially with many of the missed plot points and intrigue. I was hoping to see more come from the political aspects such as the Bene Gesserit. While disappointing from book reader POV, I can accept some plot ignorance in the interest of time. Unfortunately this shortcoming has lowered the movie from great potential to only an acceptable outcome.

I watched the movie a week ago and I will say that for a single movie, it held up 'well enough'.
For someone's first experience of the franchise, I would recommend the mini-series instead.
