Hello Everyone! We're excited to show you the new and improved Award System! This initial release is part of what we call the Crawl phase. We're using a Crawl, Walk, Run approach to releasing this Award System and have decided to iteratively release features over the next few weeks. In this post we will cover some of the features that is included with the first phase!
Before I get to the fun stuff, I want to give a absolutely massive shoutout to @Andrew for the help he gave us when working on this release. Without him this post probably wouldn't be going up right now.
Another shout out: @Covert! Covert put a lot of work into getting us a dev environment where we could test and spent a lot of time just helping us go through code and fixing things we didn't previously notice. Without him, this probably wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did!
Now, onto the fun stuff.
Where can I see awards?
Awards can currently be seen in 3 locations.
- Forum Posts:
- Your top 6 awards are featured by default on your forum posts, if you are Dedicated Supporter, you have the ability to manually feature your awards (more on this later)
- 'Awards' Page:
- This page is accessible by going to Help at the bottom of the page and clicking on Award System. This page will show you all of the Awards across EdgeGamers
- Your Profile:
- If you go to your profile and click Awards you will be able to see all of the awards you've received and you can now see the awards you haven't gotten!
- Phase 1 (Crawl)
- The first phase may not seem like much, but it took a major effort to get the old awards ported over. Since the Award System's inception over 750,000 awards have been given out, that's a ton! To give you a glimpse into the technical side, in order to port the awards over we needed the Issuer's id of the award (who gave the award out). However, the old System only kept track of the forum name of the user and did not update when someone changed their name. This meant that we had to go through all 750,000 awards manually and assign each forum id by hand before we could port the awards over.
- Features:
- Display Awards on Forum Posts
- View Awards and who has received them
- Ability To Manually Feature Awards (DS PERK)
- Phase 2 (Walk)
- This next phase is going to include some new functionality that has not been seen in the previous Award System. This phase will also include support for the automated awards, you may notice you're missing your anniversary award or maybe the award assigned along side your G or O tag, this is not a bug!
- Currently Planned Features:
- Support for Automated Awards (Anniversary, Leadership, etc)
- Ability to Request an award you may not have but qualify for
- Ability to Recommend an award for someone you believe deserves an award
- Support for issuing new awards
- Full Award Image Support (Badge + Medal)
- Bug Fixes (if bugs are reported)
- Phase 3 (Run)
- This phase is designed to be used for any feature additions and any bugs that arise from the previous phase. It will also include some legacy features like "View More" to see achievements from a forum post.
- Currently Planned Features:
- Ability to "View More" on a profile to see their achievements
- Bug Fixes from Phase 2
- This list is subject to change
I thought you would never ask, this new DS Perk allows you to choose which awards feature under your profile on your forum posts.
In order to choose which awards feature under your profile, follow these steps:
- Go to your profile and click Awards
- At the top of the page there is a Feature Button, Click it.
- At the top deselect Auto feature Awards
- Your page may reload, that's okay, click on Awards again
- Now you should be able to select which awards are featured on your profile
I found a bug! What do I do?
Make a post in the Bug Reporting we will be monitoring this for anything you guys might find! Who knows, you might even get the White Hat award for helping us out!
