I first purchased Counter-Strike in 2010, but didn't become addicted to the game until 2014. I eventually noticed there tends to be a division among the fans between the Counter-Strike games. I just saw a short YouTube documentary and what stuck out to me is the division may be generational. Fans of 1.6 hated Counter-Strike Source after it's release. Fans of Counter-Strike Source hated 1.6 and both of those fans hated CSGO. The core fans of CSGO tend to be too young to remember the development of the first 2 games but grew up with CSGO and love it. If a player is 40 years or older they probably prefer CS Source while the younger players like CSGO and have pushed the international competition which tends to be made up of the under 40 group if not younger. Obviously this is not absolute but seems to reflect what I see in game play.

I just thought it was interesting and want to know what this community thinks of each iteration and why they prefer the CS game they play.

Every now and then I hop back onto Source to see what it's like and I'm surprised at how many people still play it and how bad the physics/game mechanics are (smoke grenades and flashes?? RIP). The Source Deag is still the goat though. Used to be my favorite game, now I'm stuck on CS:GO.

I think part of the reason is the generational gap between 1.6 and Source is only three years. While between 1.6 and Global Offence is like twelve years. 1.6 released in 2000, CSS in 2004 and CS:GO 2012.
I have all the series from Half Life to CS:GO. If CS:GO JB was not complicated for my simple brain I probably be on our JB server as much as I am on CSS.
