Upgrade time

Well everyone i have around $200 to spend and i was wondering what the best upgrade for my rig would be before i go off to college. My current rig is a core 2 duo e6750 overclocked to 3.3 ghz, asus p5e motherboard, rosewill 750 watt psu, ati radeon 3870, 2 gigs of ddr2-800 ram. I was thinking of picking up a new radeon 4850 and sellin my 3870 to a friend. Anyone have any good ideas??
 
i would either go with new vid card (your 3870 is fine although) or go with more RAM (unless your running xp, then go with vid card)
 
put in a good sound card imo. Creative x-fi series, even the cheap ones are said to be pretty nice.
 
Oh i forgot to mention my motherboard came with a sound card and its not too bad. I ended up goin with the videocard cuz im selling my friend my old one so he can buy tf2 and play with me. Well thanks for the tips i ordered the asus 4850 earlier today and cant wait for it to get here.

ok ill try to keep you posted on like my 3dmark scores and all.
ill run 3dmark right before i put it in and then right after i get the drivers i need for it.
What video card do you have right now??
 
Videocard is your best bet, if you're running Vista I would upgrade the RAM to 4GB.

and as for you smoochee, i got it free, but its is a GeForce 6600GS lol
 
oic thats not too bad. either way youll notice a huge differance in performance. i have an amd machine with 2 gigs of ram and 7600gt and i built my current system. The performance jump was enormous!
 
Arnot i got my video card today and its pretty sweet. Youll notice a huge differance in games if you order it. Id say you can spend a little more money get the 4870 but the 4850 will do great also. I like the idea of a single slot cooler for better airflow.
 
If your computer is running the games you playing now maxed out why upgrade. you should wait until your computer is not running the games with setting at the max and look at upgrading then. The top of the line video cards are priced at around the same price points when they come out so in one years time the newest card will cost the same as the card you want now that will get you a few frames per min more only. While wait and get your monies worth with a card that has twice the performance. You never know what the future holds.
