Division Leadership will correct or update anything that may have changed, but I've seen some things that made me realize that many of our newer members might not realize some of the rules on the TF2 servers. This is just a quick refresher.

When reminding people to live up to server standards, please remember to be polite. Being polite makes a world of difference--it may mean the player responds politely and plays well instead of getting confrontational and needing a ban.

As Haloracer mentioned in another forum, a great format is:

[Player name], please don't use foul language on our servers.

It's always best to call someone by their name, but if you don't feel you can type out your message with correct grammar and spelling, my understanding is that a bind is now acceptable, but it's always best to make your message personal with the player's name.

Spawncamping
Spawn camping is not prohibited in TF2. Why not? We have a unique ability to break through a camper using a player ubered in spawn. It can be annoying, but the best response is to teach a spawncamper that every time he tries it, you'll work with your team to end him, thus making it no longer worth his time.

The use of the word "rape."
It's becoming far too common to use this word in place of pwn. Please stick to pwn. Why? Rape references a filthy, humiliating criminal act against another human, usually a woman. It violates eGO standards. Any decent man should find the casual use of the word repulsive. One of the reason eGO enjoys the presence of female players is that we respect players of both genders.

Many of the mistakes we make are simply due to not stopping and thinking before we talk or type. That extra second spent on thinking can make all the difference.

Thanks for making this an excellent community in which to socialize and play!

Is there a special variable in the Source scripting language that references the last player to speak? Then, with a bit of scripting and a fast finger, one could create a bind that says [last player to speak], foul language is not allowed.
Anyone know of anything like that??

This is an excellent post Monkey, new recruits should always be reminded as well as some of our other admins also. Whom I am sad to say we have recently lost a few more, for not admining in the correct fashion.

This kind of post should be updated often to remind everyone how to be good admins and most of all have respect for your fellow gamers.

Good advice

Great post. I'm always polite when I have to warn people and what not so it really bugs me when others aren't polite, especially those in higher ranks.

Thanks, everyone, and also to the moderator who moved this one--for some reason this morning my divisional section wasn't showing the general division discussion, so I dropped it in General to make sure it was accessible to our =(e)= members.

A reminder from time to time helps, and it also demystifies some of what admins do for our newer members.
