I'm not saying to make a lot of custom rules. I'm just saying that to view the eGO code of conduct (without being forced), you'd have to visit the website. You might say that's a bit backwards to go to the forum to view rules, but it gets people's foot in the door to the heart of the community.

I'm sorry you think it's offensive, but from where I'm standing, you could take the "EdgeGamers" out of the title, and the server could stand on it's own and do it's own thing. There's next to no advertisement for the main discord, you can search "discord.gg/edgegamers" and see one event post from Martin back on 11/24/2021 and one from Wish about a month before that. The RC team is doing a good job with recruiting players, sure, but there's no other advertisement for our forums except via the #ego-news section which links the news posts.

You can take all of that away and I would honestly believe the Overwatch group of players would not notice anything different except the various name changes.

And I'm not saying that Overwatch without eGO is nothing or vice versa. I'm saying it's not as a mutually beneficial as it should be.

I'm explicitly stating that Overwatch (with the exception of the RC team) could do more to link to our forums and other discords more than it does currently. I'm also explicitly stating that we should at least have a real conversation about consolidating everything.

The Overwatch discord is about the same as a CSGO server if we are comparing them I guess. You can enjoy the server/discord without needing to join the community. EGO is advertised on both the CSGO server and the OW discord enough, even though they both could do more advertising if they wanted. You could play on Bhop and Surf and have no idea what eGO is if you didn’t venture off a little to find out.

Suggestion for the OW server imo could be a “supported Discord’s” where all other eGO discord’s could be listed.

Good suggestion. Might mess around and bring this to the team.

On this suggestion as a whole, I see the main counterargument as "how many discords do we need." I think in the current state of gaming communities that if we tried to centralize all of our games into one discord member retention would be through the floor because it would be so cluttered.

The best way to grow these newly supported games is to have a separate space that still leverages all of the classic eGO styles (punk-free, well moderated, popular events, and recruitment teams.)

Creating new discords doesn't hurt and is free. I can confidently say that no one section of the community has been hurt by the expansion of a new one. I was originally from CS, I left because I couldn't do what I wanted + it made me a toxic person, but I still go back and play regularly.

Alright, perhaps I'm not really getting my point across with this thread.

This doesn't feel like a community anymore. It feels like a conglomerate of subcommunities doing their own thing with the only thing linking them together being the name. I vividly remember the day when Minecraft released Kingdoms that a lot of players from around the community, CS, MS, MC, GTA, hell, even Artimus came through playing it. At that point in time, the community felt fun, alive and together. Nowadays, you don't see that anymore. You see separated discords, with random people inside who are there solely to play and interact with the same people they see everyday.

That might be what you guys want, separated discords focusing mainly on growth within and that's fine. But man, do I miss the ol' Kingdoms days.

This is very far off from the original intent of this poll, but I feel as if it needs to be said.

I believe the reality is there is no system to properly display how large our community is, and to fully display how many people are using our various Discords and servers on a day to day basis. As someone who is in, and frequently checks our multiple Discord Servers on a daily basis, I strongly disagree that it feels like EdgeGamers is drifting apart as a community. However I will say I do see us slipping back into our own silos.

It's almost 2022, and the gaming community as a whole is changing. EdgeGamers was created in 2006 and has stood the test of time and is still here today, and as the times change EdgeGamers will keep growing. Discord is the future, like it or not it's the future. We cannot realistically fit all of our separate areas of the community into one Discord server. So these separate Discords NEED to exist or we need to just stop supporting new games. There is clearly a better option out of these two choices.

So we're stuck in a situation where we have a lot of separate Discord servers, and it's hard to feel like a unified community. Instead of complaining, we should problem solve. I really can not stress how frustrated it makes me to see the constant negativity toward our separate Discord servers when in reality no one prevents solutions or alternatives. Issues will never get fixed without ideas or visionaries. We are a community and we should work together as one. Now the question is how do we solve this problem? I have pondered this issue, for what seems like months now honestly. In my mind, what is boils down to is we NEED to overhaul our main Discord. When I say overhaul, I don't just mean to make it look pretty. It needs a functional overhaul.

The main Discord needs to work almost the same way the Overwatch one does. I say almost, because obviously it shouldn't have a niche, it should just be for general gaming. There needs to be a dedicated RC team, there needs to be a dedicated EC team, there needs to be a constant stream of content and interaction. There needs to be a place within EdgeGamers that is driving people toward it due to the sense of greater community it evokes.

When I was an e, my favorite thing to do on TeamSpeak was to meet new people. I would talk to people from areas of the community I hadn't dived into, it was awesome. This is the feeling our main Discord needs to bring back.

I can almost assure our veteran admins won't easily adjust to such a big change. However I'd argue reality is it's time for a big change if we want to put ourselves on track for growth in 2022, because Discord is the future and we need to capitalize on it.

This is a project I am still extremely passionate about working on, and I intend to use my Christmas break to give it my full effort. It'd be awesome if I could turn out a product before the start of 2022. But this is something that cannot be realistically achieved without the support of our admins. So if you are missing that greater sense of community, shoot me a DM. Tell me about what made you like EdgeGamers in the first place, what interactions made you stay, and if any what ideas you have to help bring back our community. Getting rid of separate Discords however isn't an option, it's not feasible with the current, and growing, size of our community.

I get what you mean here about missing the good ol' days, I miss them all the time with my original Gmod server, hell I thought we could make a proper reunion within this community. The thing is, the way communities function evolves over time, and while we can miss the good ol' days it's very hard to recreate them. I used to love teamspeak for Gmod for the reason you like it now, it's a place where everyone can be in one place at the same time. That being said, there are definite cons to that as well, primarily people from other games having easy access to harass/bully members from games they don't like. I do not disagree that there is plenty that can be done to make the community fell more like a community, but I just don't feel like merging everything is the answer.

On a real note, I think it should be integrated into the current main eGO Discord. I know several people, myself included who hate having to be in 5 different discords when one would suffice. It would take some work, but it would be nice if each eGO branch had its own section on discord for general chat / vc etc....
