EdgeGamers Community “Ask Me Anything” Round 2

First of all, thanks for the replies.

Now to get on topic:

What I'm trying to say is that the CS Division (and the ones that handle the promotions primarily in CS or EC), seem to have missed what's going on with CS as a community (We're at a point, that growth as a community, is a word long forgotten or at least it does feel like that for the past few months already).

Servers feel rather stale, as they lack the updates that are MUCH needed, to bring in some interest from the already existing playerbase, to come back and play on the servers, on a steady basis as it used to be back in 2019 and even better in 2020. For example in TTT, you would have an impressive amount of people on even on the EU prime hours, making it a very fun 24/7 server that people could join in and try new maps, or play with the friends etc.

Nowadays, it feels like there is little incentive for players to want to hop in the servers, since things seem to be stale and stuck at the same thing for quite a while already.

So in my opinion, bringing new Event creators (or even EC Managers ???), isn't going to solve the issues that are going on with the servers. and whoever thought we need more of them, is clearly missing the point with the issues that CS is facing. Let it be known that some people are treating EC as an easier way into Manager spots, so I am not sure what to comment on that..

CS is dying for a admin revamping project, cause it is not getting enough help as it is (we already have been losing admins and managers on a frequent basis), and it seems that there is not enough help given to it, to get back on its feet. (And I am not trying to be toxic or anything, its just my personal view of the servers/community for the past few months as it is) I am open to speak to santa whenever he feels like we should, but I am pretty sure our last discussion, he was rather misinformed in some of the more known matters (considering he was also a bit new to his manager spot at least), even though I believe that managers should be people that have a general idea of their games' playerbase, and what the overall status was with them. But I am keen to talk with him whenever he is available.

And I can understand what you're trying to say with your last sentence, but numbers and growth rate percentages at different timezones do not really seem like it, but I hope this will all be a bad phase for CS that ends soon.

PS: You should come by TTT, and you'll change your opinion soon enough, heh!
I agree that servers are lacking updates. It mostly is due to the technical debt that we've created for ourselves. Having limited people to do the work, and every day we add three extra tasks for them to complete, it's difficult to get the work done to the degree the players expect. Counter-Strike specifically is getting back on track with a few new processes in place that should start pumping some much needed updates out.

I know you referenced a lot of "identity" problems when it comes to who does what within the Counter-Strike Leadership team, especially regarding the handling of events. I've been trying to stay in tune the best I personally can with Santa and DDZ to ensure they're setup for success, while also providing clear communication channels to the CM team. I have faith that we have the right leaders in Santa and DDZ in place to keep CS:GO in EdgeGamers moving in the right direction, and also propel growth forward.

Finally, we're going to probably agree to disagree that things are dying. I have heard this for years and we're still chuggin along. I am not sure I can speak to the concerns accurately that you have concerns about in CS specifically, and would encourage you (as you said you would) to sit down with the Leadership team to have your voice heard. Closed mouths don't get fed, so get on it. I have a lot of faith in our Counter-Strike team to hear you out on what you have to say, and take action where it is warranted.

TTT is bad. Jail is better. I'm retired from Counter-Strike and probably wont play it ever again. Sadface

The original post that Lunar (at the time Hero) made included the idea of adding a pop up message to new players about our rules or updates on rules on sever (for those regulars that are server only and don't bother with the forums). Another good idea from that thread was to make the ruleset across all servers more accessible via a tab in the taskbar (most likely next to the about section) instead of the rulesets being buried where only those that view the forums regularly could find them. Basically, just cater to those that aren't active on the forums so when they are guided by our admins to "read the rules" they at least know where to find them.

I would also suggest taking another look at the LE discussion that was made about this (I believe Jeff brought it up and this topic was revived there). Sorry to say but I used "beat around the bush" because an actual answer or a reply that would help give an idea of the direction it is heading wasn't happening after trying to keep the now 2 month old thread I linked alive and wasn't being specifically answered. The only "answer" we got was:

That thread specifically fell into drama induced comments after the first couple responses from those that play the servers. The responses from higher leadership gave no clear indication of a solution with instead back-handed statements as responses to replies that felt targeted and offensive (refer to the entire thread comments included), and that was the only "productive" answer from higher leadership. Not trying to take shots at you guys but this is what I mean by "beating around the bush." The original idea got ignored (not addressed other than by those that actively play the server and gave their opinion on the matter) and other outcomes came of it.
Thanks for the clarification.

I can agree that any way we can keep players more informed to the rules is important. There's a lot of options on how we do that and we need to just land on the best one. If a pop up box acknowledging our rules is the best way to do it, I am for it. If there's an alternative that works better, I am for that as well. We do however have to have a healthy balance between "information at your fingertips" and the information we drive people to this website for. I am not certain a way to provide every single Jail or TTT rule directly on the Jail or TTT server is the best. We can provide potentially the most common, but will probably need the real estate the forums provide to go much more in depth. Once whatever direction we want to proceed with is landed on, Tech will have to prioritize and allocate the personnel to get the work done. There's a lot of moving parts to tech that I have spoke to in this thread already so I wont rehash the same message over yet again.

I recognize and acknowledged that thread went off the rails. It seems to happen when people are passionate and when you tend to involve many people who are equally as passionate in the same discussion. I don't think the original message is lost, there's still a nugget of gold here that we have to find and put in play.

What is your idea on pushing out new general rules (Code of Conduct) out to newer players, I know still that many players don't understand our new policies that have been discussed privately and it's hard for them new figure out without being so involved in the community when all they want is to play on our servers.

A large majority still does not learn the rules immediately before playing, even @stevi has never read the rules by doing !rules because of no one paying attention and jumping right in(I saw this while doing !showrules to a player), not understanding how our servers and code of conduct work.

Also, for complicated servers that no one may understand, I said this around 1 year ago but it would be great if eGO made guides for certain servers explaining the rules and gameplay. As well as other basic commands. Not only would this hopefully make the server much more engaging for newer players but we would also be able to recieve more feedback on our servers.

Continuing from the last paragraph, I'm talking about servers like TTT and JB which are hard to learn quickly, making new players frustrated if they've never played the game-modes before.

In some TF2 servers, they have a starting pop up as soon as you enter the game, before even selecting a character. Our servers have that, and regularly people just skip by. In fact, in CS:GO, TF2, OW, and many other divisions. Our rules are not shown enough for others.

I'm not saying that me smudge everyones face with a 6 paragraph note containing all the rules, I think we should just advertise the rules much more so people can be reassured during situations. I still get constantly confused with many of the constantly updating rules which barely get any public discussion. (e.g JailBreak.)
We have an updated Code of Conduct being released soon. It will hit the front page first and an explanation of the changes. From there, we need to explore ways we can keep our players more in-tune with the happenings who may not visit the website. The reply above may speak to this.

The concept of pushing updates and knowledge to the homepage and General forums from the Community Management team is something you will see more frequently, and I will be the one owning that. This weekend, we will actually have a pretty decently sized Community Management update that will be shared giving an update on some re-aligning of roles and also what we've been working on. We've always had difficulty juggling the roles of communication and being gamers (I think it comes with the territory) and that's something I personally want to get much better at. One of the big ways we can help with this process additionally is the return of monthly Community Meetings and tailor fitting the content to make the average EdgeGamers member more educated on what the hell goes on here.

You have a fantastic idea of the creation of guides. What frequently happens with great ideas is they just disappear for some reason, and I would encourage you not to let this idea disappear. If you want to be the one to see this become a reality, gather up some people to make it happen. I am sure the Leadership team would not have an issue seeing this become a reality.

I appreciate your time in responding as this helps give more clarification on the matter. Thank you for an answer.

When will we receive out DS for the csgo 5v5 tournament?

Tomorrow.

What advice do you have for a new eG?

Become as involved in the community as possible, outside of the game you play most. There's great people in the community and you should take the time to get to know them. The more you get to know every area of the community, the best it will set you up to be the most informed and reliable admin possible. It would also set you up well for being a Leader. In other words - chill, play games, meet as many people as possible.
I still haven't received my ds :/
