Admin channel + CS channel

Admin channel:
When training new admins the three steps for help are as following:

Asking for Help

  • Any questions about admining, rules or policy should be directed to the “Admin Help” forum. You can find this forum [HERE].
  • Additionally, you can contact any Admin Trainer for assistance. A full roster is located [HERE].
  • Need a quick response? Use the #admin-chat section in Discord* (*make sure you have your Discord linked to MAUL).
The admin chat was widely used, both for memes but also for real admining questions. We eliminate quick and easy questions by not having this channel. Since TF2 and CS are the two primary games left using the Discord there should be room for both player bases to use just a single channel. Let it return.

CS channel (and TF2 channel):
This Discord is the only way the CS community really unites, and if we want to move away from TeamSpeak and start using Discord more, then we should have a text channel allowing one of the biggest supported games to be able to actually communicate. Not having this text channel will probably prompt CS to ask for their own Discord, which (i think) will lead to not much of anything left for the main one (normal/general chatting wise).

Please consider implementing these two channels as soon as possible.
Thank you :)

you guys either need a full server or talk in general, y'all don't need a channel

The admin channel was a general and memes channel for admins only...which was silly.

We could reinvent it with its actual purpose. There definitely were times where people asked for help - both for other admins to assist them on the servers, but also general questions.

Were those drowned in memes and chatter? Definitely. Does that make the channel a bad idea? I don't believe so.

If admins don't know how to use it properly, then just remove it again. I think we should at least give it a chance.

You could also tell admins that post memes to knock it off. I consider this similar to how Admins aren’t supposed to respond to Ban Contests. The admin chat was useful for admin discussion. Removing it was kind of “A technical solution to a training problem”.

The admin channel I cannot add to that conversation, but for the CS and TF2 Channels,

I would like to add text channels for both games in question. I think for voice channels they should remain as is.

p.s. my opinion means nothing and is not final.

I don't believe voice channels would be necessary (I speak only from my own perspective obviously). Text would be great though.

hey who said that i like that phrase : )

I agree pretty completely with this. There's no place for CS chatter except for the main discord but that's not really the intended purpose of the discord from what I've seen. It's suppose to be a place for all the community. And as you pointed out, the main one would not attract as much attention if CS moved to its own dedicated server.

Maybe a text channel. Def don't need a voice.

Yes admin chat was basically just a private meme channel. After Custom stepped down, it was used much less "professionally" without the ability to ping custom for ban evaders. Wish we had the old server to see that but I'm sure @MemeLord, who was the main contributor to memes, can attest that it was just a glorifed meme zone. The only things that happened in there that were productive were occasional discussions about rules, possible changes, and stuff like that. Maybe an admin chat is necessary, but if it does come back, I'd hope it would be used properly since we're trying to avoid adding extra things.

ah yes, because im sure le-global was totally an on-topic channel used only for leadership discussions and nothing else.

I'm speaking from my personal viewpoint, not from any other refresh admin or leadership viewpoint. The idea that we need a specific CS channel is a bit out of place to me. This is the main eGO discord and while that means it's broad, most of our admins and playerbase who are in that server are CS players. That was the reason why the counter-strike channel was popping because most players are CS players in the main Discord. The idea that we need that specific channel doesn't make sense because with the exception of TF2, every other Division has their own Discord. They have their own ways of communicating outside of the main eGO one.

CS also does (server specialists come to mind and the NUMEROUS private discords out there) have these ways of communication that's on topic with Counter Strike. You guys are pretty much the only group left who don't have another Discord to use. So use this one. Talk about CS with your heart's content on the general chat or tell CS to make their own discord server. We don't need more clutter nor anything else.

The admin channel doesn't need to exist. If admins need help with an admin question, they should refer to their AT. If they don't know who their AT is, they are lying because they got trained by SOMEONE or they should ask in MAUL chat to see if an O level admin or AT is online and willing to help. If we need a channel for admins to ping Santa religiously to check IP's, that should be a custom channel, not a general admin channel.

You don't need a custom channel. Try working without it first and see where it gets you.

Hey, Minecraft got their own discord recently. Can't CS have one?

Honestly I don’t see why admins shouldn’t have both a text and voice chat. There’s no harm in it imo. Just should be used when needed, not for shit posts then.

As for the supported game chats, I don’t see why not as well.

If there’s room for 3 bot command channels (commands, poketwo, wishing) and 3 LFG channels (duo, group, players), I think it’s reasonable to have a channel for one of the most popular games that EGO has.

In my opinion, the point of channels and the point of having multiple of them is to allow people with similar interests to talk about a similar topic. Does CS have a Server Specialist Discord? Yes. Can you talk about CS while playing CS? Yes. But not everyone wants to talk about suggesting a specific server, reporting bugs, or giving feedback.

Similarly, what game doesn’t support in game communication? “There’s no need for a CS channel, just talk in CS”. This argument would also apply to OW, Minecraft, GTA, etc etc. Considering CS doesn’t have its own discord, I think it’s reasonable that they at least get their own channel. Considering over half of EGO’s servers are CS (8/15), I again don’t see why not.

It’s not even like it would look disorganized. You already have a “Select your roles here!”, you could 100% make a category of Supported Games and show the channels if someone’s opted in to the games role. Maybe support the games that you call “Supported” in the Main Discord, or provide a link to each games appropriate discord (and if it doesn’t exist, maybe make a channel!)

Conversations are guided by a channel’s name. If you name a channel “Nintendo” then you’ll get discussions that are about Nintendo. Saying “Just use general“ also just sounds like a terrible idea. Channels are meant to separate discussions to allow people to look for what they’re interested in and want to talk about. If I want to talk about my new PC build I know I can post it in the tech channel. If I wanted to talk about my favorite song I could post it in music. If I want to talk about a CS update or EGO CS server? “Just post it in general!”

Okay, but why not just post everything in general? You don’t need a selfies channel, or a tech channel, or a music channel. It’s too messy, all that’s done in memes channel is memes are sent. It’s silly. Memes channels are silly and just put memes in general. Put everything in general! All of EGO is now General!

Thank you for coming to my TEEEEEED talk (cause it’s extra long).
