Hello everyone, been awhile.
I joined EGO about 2 months ago after playing on your avalanche server for months and months and getting into your top 100 for server stats. I had said I moved across the country and was trying to make friends and liked everyone here so I joined you guys and dissapeared right afterwords. I really like you all and want to come play on your server again but I feel bad for dissapearing like I did and would like to share my story of what I just went through in my life.
Soo this will be a long read, Ill try to make it as short as possible and ill feel better about playing on the server again and not like some who just jets for no reason.
This is not for the faint of heart and is a very intense story.
So I joined you guys. Me and my wife are a young couple in our 20's. About a week after I joined she got sick. We took her to the doctor and she was diaganosed with something like chicken pox called 5th disease. We went home but over the next 2 weeks she got sicker and sicker.
On a Thursday she woke up and her skin was peeling off of her hands in BIG chunks and she had a very hard time breathing and said she hardly could walk.
We took her back to our doctor and demanded blood work and a urine sample.
The doctor came back and said something ill never forget....she had 48 hours to live and she needed to get to a major medical facility right now. We had no insurance and they refused us an ambulance, the closest major hospital was 3 hours away(the only one with a no turn-away policy) and we didnt get paid for a few days and I had no gas/money.
After some calls I had some money wired from family across the country and was on my way to the hospital an hour later. At the hospital she was taken to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Quarentine with an unknown disease and given 48 hours to live. She was asked to sign her will and I had a counseling session I will never forget.
The next day I wish I could erase forever. In the morning they said she had lost 75% of her kidneys and 90% of her lungs had filled with a fluid of some kind. On top of that they had no idea what was wrong with her and if they couldnt figure it out in the next day or so we will lose her.
By the night she was fading FAST. She was almost incoherant and couldn't make full sentences. The found out what was in her lungs, it was blood. She had to have an emergency procedure to have it removed and it didnt go as planned. She was given a 10% chance at surviving the night and was read last rights from a priest.
She survived the night but was on life support. They had a breakthrough through the night and pegged her disease RIGHT IN THE NICK OF TIME. Her immune system had gone "on the fritz" and had turn on her and was killing her lungs and kidneys. She was diagnosed with a VERY rare and uncureable disease called Microscopic Polyangitiis. The reason they couldnt figure out what was wrong with her is she shouldnt have this disease as it only affects people over 50.
Now for the real kicker....the treatment is actually WORSE than the disease. She needs to be an ALOT of really horrible drugs for 2 years. She also has to take chemothearapy for 6 months and had to have plasmapharisis for 3 weeks.
(they put a tube into a neck vein down to your heart and once every other day it hooks to a machine that takes all the blood out of you and exchanges the immune system in it with a donors). She also no longer has an immune system for the next 2 years.
Because of the threat of a relapse with this disease we had to move next to the hospital. We live paycheck to paycheck and shes the breadwinner of us so it wasent easy. We both lost our jobs, I had to lose my House, Motorcycle, All my furniture (it was all 2nd hand and I cant take a chance of infection with her), 2nd pc to be able to get the money to move next to the hospital. On top of that
I had to ship my dog away to my parents across the country or lose her.
So im now trying to get the pieces of my life together. Were hurtin right now but well make it. I had to go from a 5 bed house to a 1 bed apartment in a bad part of town with nothing to sit on but I still have her and thats all that matters.
We live in cedar rapids Iowa and if anyone here watches CNN our town was washed away in a flood. We were one of the few places in town that didnt get flooded but looks like no work for me here. Sad, If I hadnt seen enough already, now my towns gone. At least we still have power, many here still dont.
I have a renewed faith in people after this. I grew up an angry Punk rocker and I have really changed my tune to the world. I had no money, sold almost everything I own and was hurting to move and someone donated me $2000.
I just cried. I didnt know what to say. On top of that a nurse came up to me and donated me $50 for lunch and told me get out of the hospital for a few and clear my head. Maybe there is hope for us as people after all
Thank you for hearing my story. Ill leave you with her myspace page, she has pictures of the flooding in iowa we took here and pics of her before and after the hospital.
