ATI v. NVIDIA prices falling

Nvidia has been pushing some of there new cards lately that where still in the making to try to spoil ATI's 4000 series cards. When the price of the 4850 was reviled Nvidia immediately lowered the prices of there 9800GTXs. Now that the 4870s came out Nvidia will have to do even more to try to compete with ATI's lower prices. The 4870x2s are soon to come out and I wonder what nvidia will do when that happens? If there wasn't a competition between ATI and Nvidia then where would all the fun be?

ATI will always be on top in my opinion, you just cant beat them, they always come out with something better after Nvidia does.

Nvidia pwns the crap outta ati. I just wish I could afford them. I've got the 8400 GS right now and with meh next build im gettin the 8800 GT

I prefer Nvidia for no particular reason. Both are very comparable.

Intel vs. AMD is a toss up--AMD has traditionally been a bit more power for your buck, but runs hotter, too. I remember Intel scrambling a bit to catch up to AMD when AMD released dual core (I could be misremembering).

Gimme a good rig that runs well, I'm happy.

You're definitely right on this one, Monkeybits. AMD put out dual-core first, and for a little while really had Intel by the throat. Then Intel finally picked up their game and hasn't given back the lead since. AMD really just can't compete at this point. It even seems that Intel is hold back their best technology just so they don't blow AMD out of the water. That is in their best interest, since if they do and AMD goes under, Intel well no long have any competition and might be in trouble for monopoly, etc.

As far as AMD vs. Nvidia is concerned, Nvidia really seems to be ahead of the curve right now. They've always gone back and forth, but AMD now can't seem to quite get the upper hand. And now that Nvidia has the GTX 280 on the horizon, it doesn't look like AMD will be able to catch up anytime soon. AMD puts out a good card - it's just not quite as good for gaming as what Nvidia has to offer.

i could care less whats better.. only whats the better bargain. I've never been the type to buy top of the line whatever... nvidia has always ticked me off for this reason.. though i mostly run nvidia cards (cheap models, they really arent worth it unless you just like watchin movies n little gaming). When i saw their 8800 series was around 600 dollars USD i just clicked the little X on my web browser and never thought about it since.

I know some companies bundle games n stuff with cards which is nice.. but maybe they should bundle a gas card or something with it. LOL

Im not for ATi or Nvidia really. I go where the best price/performance is. ATi released the 4850 and 4870 not as there flagship cards but cards that will force nvida to drop they're prices. And saying Nvidia has the fastest card on the market doesnt mean much because most gamers cant afford to buy the best. Its the $100-$300 price range that a lot of people go for. If you look at benchmarks you can buy the gtx280 for like $650 as where you get a radeon 4870 for $300 and it performs only 10-15% slower i think most people will go with that because itll save them money. I dont really care what company makes the card i have in my pc because ill probably buy the best price/performance card on the market at that time. All in all though we do have some competition on our hands and look out for even faster cards at lower prices.

Nvidia. Always.

I've owned a bunch of cards from both companies, all my nvidia's have been reliable and always work, new drivers, old drivers, left drivers, right drivers. ATi has good products but no support and drivers for those products.

Also, residual prices are higher for Nvidia cards vs ATi, and Nvidia cards are more sought after in the used market mainly because of their dependability.
