This is a weird feeling (regarding where I'm at in life with education/work)

Hey ladies and gentlemen,

I'm having one of those "wow" moments today. Between 7pm last night and about 5pm today I have submitted about 11 job applications to become an Adjunct Professor to teach History (and one job that is described as the humanities). Submitting job applications to teach college-level courses was a sort of "wow" moment for me. I'm continuing my education, currently in my fourth week of a Ph.D. program for history, but I felt the need to gain some experience on the other side of the classroom. I probably will not be hired in any one of these jobs, because that's just how it goes when you apply for jobs; but the fact remains I am applying and after I complete 200 job applications I'm bound to land one of the professor jobs.

So why am I posting this? Certainly not to toot my own horn... I went to an alumni event for my institution and felt like a dummy sitting next to people who had 2 and 3 master's degrees; one guy had 13 degrees (with I believe two Ph.D.'s); it's a humbling experience to say the least. I'm posting this as just a bit of encouragement for all you gamer peeps out there. No matter if you're in Middle School, High School, the first year of college, or the last year of your Ph.D., you are steadily accomplishing something. Take a moment to just say "wow" to yourself and pat yourself on the back for how much you have accomplished. Slowly, but surely, you are going to separate yourselves from your peers as long as you keep making steady improvements on your life goals (and this includes the trades as well).

I've been beyond stressed out and I didn't take a moment to breathe between the culmination of my Master's degree to the beginning of my doctorate, but it is slowly occurring to me how far I've risen from when I started. You, too, will begin to chip away at your life goals and dang it, if no one says it to you, I will; I'm proud of you. If you are stagnant in life, take five minutes a day to study something, or to work on completing a Google Cert, Coursera course (there is a really neat Canadian tribal history course on there I'm taking currently), EdX, Udemy, et cetera. Go find your local tradesman and learn how to weld or work with home electric, whatever it is keep in mind you can likely accomplish it!

If you are struggling to finance college and want to attend, look for the work/study programs that are out there; Or you can look into taking Sophia courses which will transfer to major institutions to complete a degree (I wish that had been around when I started haha). Whatever your choice may be, get on the grind to make it happen.

With all that said, if any of you have any questions concerning education I'd love to hear your questions and maybe I can answer them. Anyways, you all have a wonderful rest of your night/day.

I'm trying to get into computer science but god damn is it difficult. I took 2 coding classes and failed both of them miserably because learning a new language is hard as shit. I'm nowhere near even starting that career and I already feel like quitting, I don't understand why getting into something is so difficult but just gotta suck it up and work through the difficult times. Next semester I'm taking a math class and a humanities class alongside networking, so that's my first step into trying something new. I'll be done with my transfer agreement and I can go to another college finally.

Is computer science for you? Have you explored different subjects? I started out with the hope of going into computer science and switched after I completed my associate degree to the field of history.

But I'm going to go off the assumption that computer science is for you. Language code is just that, a language. You didn't learn Japanese in eight-sixteen weeks, you're certainly not going to learn C++ in that time. You should study on your own (purchase books from thriftbooks or amazon on the subject). Learn the subject matter really well then go back and take the courses. Before you take a Pearl class, go complete a pearl book; make it an investment on your end so you're not needlessly spending your money on a class.

To starting a career in the field: If you were not aware, Microsoft has webinars, called "Virtual Training Days," that you can attend freely. There are both US and European time slots, and after your attendance Microsoft will afford you the opportunity to take ONE exam (per webinar) that will give you a Microsoft certification if passed. They have Azure 900 exam and a variety of others. Just make sure in the description that it says they'll pay for this or that exam, at no cost. Finally, concerning you taking math and humanities. If you struggle in math you will likely struggle in all programming. You'll be able to test your mettle then I suppose. Does your school accept sophia.org classes? I believe it's like $70 a month to knock out all the general education units they offer, which if your school accepts could save you tons of money. It is something to consider.
