Not Planned Radio DJ

I just got a wild idea pop in my head. What if we had a CSGO/tf2/rust plugin that would allow us to have a live radio station play, not through the mic, but directly to the people that tune into listen? I would say this would be enabled on events , surf, bhop for people who want to listen in via a command like !radio on, but they could turn it off with !radio off.

But instead of a random station, We can host our own. Have admins picked out that can be a live DJ and play music through the plugin. They would in a sense stream to the station via shoutcast programs like virtual dj, sams, or various other programs. The radio station would pick up what the live DJ is streaming and push it out to a live link that the plugin in the game could pick up and play.

When no DJ's are live, a saved playlist can be played at random.

OFC, all music would abide by the rules in which no racism, sexism, or bad slangs would be used.

People listening could even send in song requests, if the songs follow the rules.

I'm 99% sure this exists as a plugin so it's probably doable. But I don’t really see it being used much.

Why though?

If players wanted to listen to music they can do so on their own computer.

This seems like a significant amount of work and upkeep for something that I can't imagine would be used more than a few rare times.

If you want to listen to music then there are dozens of services that already offer this. They personalize, customize, and you get to pick what you're listening to. I do not think CS/TF/Rust game server is the proper platform to host a radio on.

I understand having YT, Spotify, Pandora, etc. But one of the main perks of a live DJ would be able to talk about announcements, events, and various other things cross server. Even if it's 10 or 20 people listening, they would hear the announcement that we have an event going on, such as Os vs NOs, a tournament, etc. Most people glance over that on the forums, and some of our players don't go on the forums to begin with. I'm just trying to think of a way to push information out to our players while also pushing some entertainment

u could have a server-wide announcement plugin that connects to all ego servers and posts the message, ik some admins just join games and spam the chat then leave like a messenger, but this could be useful if you start an event for that specific game

Problem with streaming music over internet radio is you don't generally have rights to stream most music. Now I've seen these radio stations stay up for years without problems on other services/games, but do we really want to open the door to possible litigation with the RIAA?

well surf and bhop would love it atlot, but dont think TTT or JB needs that plugin as we listen to commands and shit and we need to be heard by everyone doing stuff, unless you can mute the DJ for you and only you and the rest can still hear the songs......

Well it would be a command to opt in to listen via !radio. so only those that have it on could hear it

-1 for multiple reasons

• Music licensing is insanely expensive
• 98% of people will never use it (they'd rather hear their own music)
• We have several other means for announcements, such as Discord and Steam groups
  • I like what Majesty suggested about a global announcement plugin, that should be considered
• Years ago we had a thing called TuneGO which was basically this and it flopped
• Other plugins already exist that do this like Hive365 and Frag Radio

As a DJ myself, I'd generally like this concept and be in favor of it. Unfortunately, the amount of time and effort it would take to get this going isn't worth it in my opinion.

To be honest, if we had this and I was the DJ, we’d just listen to music no one could understand anyways.

Haha, this is a nice idea, but not very practical. Good suggestion!
