I am such a hold-out, I still have a hard drive with XP on it and a dual boot option for it (although I haven't booted into it at all)

I finally decided to upgrade out of Win7 though.. tried to jump straight to 11 and then the install told me my 4th gen processor isnt compatible lmao

About to get Win10 to add to the boot list, which is funny to me because I was ripping on Win10 in a post 7 years ago swearing over my dead body...
But.. Ray tracing.. I got a rtx2060 to replace 2x crossfired r9 280x's that couldn't play Stray on lowest settings --- and Win7 can't use the card to it's fullest..

Any other hold-outs still on Win7? :D
 
Win7 honestly was goated. I only ever upgraded to 10 because microsoft in their attempt to get me to upgrade just said hippity hoppity your audio drivers are my property, and yeeted them.
I am running windows 11, and btw, u can bypass the win11 checks for valid CPU, RAM, TPM, by editing a few values in the installer, there are a good bit of guides online to do so,

Win11 isn't all that bad, haven't had any other gripes with it other than if u override the BS keeping you from moving ur taskbar, it can be kinda borked

Win 7 was great, but I always try to stay on supported software so I don't get hit with security vulnerabilities.
Made the jump to win 11 a couple months ago
 
i remember when everyone hated windows 10 but its now the norm. Im never going to win11 it looks nice but **** man they changed too much.

plus I can use something like rainmeter to change my shit to look like windows 11
 
I’m on windows 11, all the features I miss from windows 10 can be reverted to, but since I’ve built my own pcs they’ve all been windows 10
 
Windows 7 was wonderful. In fact, the only reason I upgraded was I bought my first m.2 SSD and it doesn't support Windows 7. But Windows 10 has been great to me, to be fair. Still not a fan of 11 though.
 
I held out on Windows 7 for as long as I could, just like I held out on Windows XP for as long as I could. Now I use Windows 11, I think? I think at some point it forced me to upgrade to Windows 11 lol.

I did the same for Windows 7. I think it was DirectX updates that forced me to go to Windows 10? Or maybe that was switching from XP to 7? I can't remember lol
 
I held out on 7 for a bit, but ended up diving into 10 in maybe 2017 after doing a few minor upgrades at the time. The performance was definitely better and I never sign into a Microsoft account, deactivated a lot of the weird stuff / cortana / telemetry. So overall I’ve been happy with it since.

I haven’t even looked at 11 yet though. Everything’s stable and running well so, maybe after some upgrades down the road I’ll dabble.

It’s like cars - never buy the first year of a models production time, wait a year or two to iron out the bugs.

So I'm still on Win 7 (only because my current mobo still only uses 2.5" ssd), but I know I'll have to upgrade to Win 10 (only because I have an nvme ssd that I'll be upgrading to & I know Win 7 doesn't support it). However, I'm not exactly estatic about Win 10 as I'm eyeing moving my stuff to Ubuntu. I was finally able to get my Alienware laptop back on Win 10 (even though that was a battle), but I'm on the same train with others about Win 11. To me, Win 11 is JUST like Vista in that almost no one will ever touch it. It'll be interesting to see what the upcoming Win 12 will be like when Microsoft decides to release it...
 
I was one of those weirdos that preferred Windows Vista over everything else, more than likely because I was at the age where I had received my first laptop (all mine, no sharing with the brothers) and that was the OS at the time. I remember when Windows 7 dropped, and how much I despised the look of it.

Then it happened again, when Windows 10 dropped. And 11. Hahaha. Microsoft really has a thing for intuitive UI, don't they?

I am one of the stubborn heads that hates upgrading to a new OS due to everything being moved, or looking different. Took me years to go from xp to 7 and even longer to go from 7 to 10 swearing up and down I wouldn't, then as games / programs / hardware require later and later OS's I was required to. I reminisce hearing dual boots and remember having to swap a little plastic piece in the back of the harddrive for a slave drive.

if only i was here then to tell you i was running it on a 4790k with no probs
 
Win7 was amazing. I haven't made the jump to 11 just yet; I like how 10 is, and I think it's the most solid as of right now.

there really is no discernable difference between 10 and 11 except for the taskbar alignment (which you can change back to 10 style in settings lol)

we already swapped to 11 at work - we align the taskbar to the left (10 style), keep the old context menu, and add our own buttons in start menu - all supported by settings in 11. upsides to the upgrade are mainly for IT admins (sexy new task manager, new security reporting, intune stuff) and I havent heard a peep from the users over it (old college professors!)

the less "new" the better ive found in a OS iteration (see: XP to vista with the new Aero window environment) and thankfully 11 really hasnt got all that much "new"

I might have to give it a try then! If my computer can support the win11 update haha. Also I dig your signature :) I'm guessing you know about Serial Experiments Lain or fauux neocities the website. That's what my signature is about and some of my steam profile!

Fun fact: if it says its unsupported, its lying - ive run Win 11 on my cousins ghetto PC (4790k, 4GB of ram, 780ti) and it daily drove no problem. The Rufus USB tool give you the option to patch out the "Supported" checks: https://www.neowin.net/guides/how-to-create-windows-11-bootable-usb-using-rufus/
