processor does not support SSE instruction set

I got this on one of my machines the first time I tried to run TF2 on it. the proc is an AMD Thunderbird 1.15 GHz. The machine is for my son to get involved with the TF2 community, so I want to get this resolved as soon as possible.
Any help would be great.

well there are 4 lvls of SSE now... if TF2 supports a higher level of SSE then the thunderbirds had back then... there isn't anything you can do but replace the processor.

That is a processor limitation, and cannot be overcome with software. And also, playing TF2 on a 1.15 Ghz processor would be the equivalent of having an artist hand-paint every single frame. Unless you want your son to develop eye problems, get at least a dual-core. I can help you find one on Newegg if I have the socket number. Dual-cores, especially AMD's, are cheap now.

I think what algebra hinted at and what nossr is trying to say is that to get an enjoyable experience out of the game you'll need a new processor. The Thunderbird series can be equated to a Pentium 3, which is very outdated and no longer supported.

You will be unable to simply replace the processor. The motherboard dictates the pieces you can upgrade, and thus you will need a new motherboard as well. This requires new RAM, a new power supply, a new video card............ You need a new computer. If you are willing to build your own, you could probably have a decent little box @ $500.

Might seem steep just to play TF2, but I'd imagine doing anything on your Thunderbird box is a bit of a test in sanity. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions or clarifications.

I don't see where I implied otherwise. My paragraph elaborating on your helpful "Get a new Processor" would seem to indicate I was aware of his problem.

new comps that can play tf2 go from around 500 - infinite
so getting a new comp would be my best bet, seeing as a 1.15ghz is really slow i think tf2 needs at least 1.6? or more
