TOP 1k PLAYER SCORE GIVEAWAY!
Kindness is the name of the game ;)

I am not very good at video games. (Wall of text coming, TL;DR at the bottom)
That said, I do seem to be getting better and occasionally will have very good days.

I am initiating this post with the reason of celebrating passing the top 1,000 player mark (And also being in the top .1%) according to GameMe stats.
I'm super excited about this milestone and seeing as I don't expect ever to be top 100 or even 500, I have decided to do a bit of a giveaway.

I am not particularly well off, nor do I have flagrant disrespect for the little money that I, a near-broke college student do have... therefore the giveaway isn't super flashy but it was fairly expensive.

I don't play this game because I'm good at it. I play this game because I enjoy being a light in the darkness of the community. I am a generally happy and nice person and I enjoy making others' days better by interacting with them positively. If I played this game because I was good at it, I wouldn't have played it for very long and I definitely wouldn't be here talking to you. I love people and I also love finding other kind people, which I have a habit of friending.

To win the prize for yourself and a friend, respond to this thread with a situation where someone on eGO or on your friend list went out of their way to be kind to you or left you feeling happy after an interaction with them! (Either link their steam profile in your message or @mention them on the thread)

The winner of the tier two prize will be selected by random drawing of what I believe are qualifying situations. The person in their response will receive a first place prize.
(I'm bad at explaining things over text so here's a rephrase: I'm gonna randomize all of the responses I think are good and the winners will be selected from that pool. The top prize goes to the person that was named in the response and the second prize goes to the person that named them)

Prizes!:

Tier 1: (Person who was nice)
Professional Strange Backburner named "Warm Hug!" and described "Awarded for outstanding and memorable kind behavior!"

Tier 2: (Person who recommended nice person)
Full Provisions loadout for Engie:
  • Packable Provisions ~ Mercenary Grade Provision Pack (Cosmetic)
  • Provisions Cap ~ Assassin Grade Provisions Hat (Cosmetic)
  • The Tools Of The Trade ~ Level 52 Tool Belt (Cosmetic)
  • Masked Mender Mk.II Rescue Ranger ~ Mercenary Grade Shotgun (Battle Scarred)
  • Civic Duty Mk.II Pistol ~ Civilian Grade Pistol (Well-Worn)
  • Autumn Mk.II Jag ~ Freelance Grade Wrench (Factory New)

TL;DR: I suck at the game but I just made it to the top 1k and I like being nice so to win my celebration giveaway, submit the name and story of someone who was nice to you (memorably) and who is a member of eGO or on your steam friends list and it will be entered into a random drawing!

Idk if ur taking LE responses, but either way I feel compelled to tell a bit of a story. I've encased it in a spoiler because it is REALLY long.

Before eGO I had never played TF2. It seemed to me counterstrike had more to offer and was more my speed. In my early days of TF2 I had done some different work with Drk when she was still a Senior Manager, helping here and there with a few plugjns and got a couple of things working. This was my first exposure to TF2 at all. I had still a lot to learn about the game.

Some of my most genuine favorite times in eGO date to back then, we had done some testing with Dodgeball, and Dark had spent a few hours messing around with the plugin and had a good time blowing things up with the dodgeball rockets.

After that, I had taken more interest in the game. I had came around bit and piece during a few events, like blackmesa. I quickly learned that the people in eGO's TF2 offering were a very fun group of people to hang around, and was much more enjoyable than some of the toxic players that counterstrike as a game contains.

So every now and again, I'd hop on the servers and flail like a dead fish in a game that I had never really played, getting better at it by the week. Still played a ton of counterstrike, but it started growing on me.

Now, one day, we were on 2Fort, and I was looking to scratch that competitive itch gaming gives you. Low and behold, only like 5 people outta a few people are actually fighting. The rest are dancing around. I didn't understand this. I mean, logically speaking, it doesn't make much sense. Why play a game that you have 0 intention to play the game as intended.

So out of curiosity, I joined them. I started talking with them and asked why they weren't fighting back. It took me a while to understand it, but I found the answer. An answer that Drk had given me and changed the way I gamed forever.

As we all know, and can't deny, TF2 is not the game it once was. TF2 was a massive success in it's time, but Valve cares more for it's games that are in the spotlight, and TF2 slid into the state it's in now. TF2 isn't dead, but to the world as it exists, it has forgotten about the game by and large.

The answer to the question of why someone would join a FPS shooter and not actually try and shoot lies in that.

TF2 is kept alive and beloved by communities like eGO, and others, and people like the friendlies. These friendlies do what they do because to them, they care so deeply about the game, they'd spend time in it doing nothing but having a good time dancing around, making jokes, and playing RPS, doing ANYTHING to keep the servers populated, spending as much time as possible in a game they love so that their game is still there to this day to be enjoyed by people who wanna play it.

Drk, and eGO showed me that deeper sense of community that to this day has stuck with me, and it inspired me to help I'm any way I could to help make sure that they can continue to offer that to players of TF2. It lead to me becoming admin, and helping to keep servers clean, to becoming an EC and hosting wacky fun different game modes that we don't usually offer from our servers, to becoming leadership, and doing whatever we can to ensure that we have this to offer for time and time to come.

If it wasn't for Drk, I probably wouldn't have discovered that sense of community, and wouldn't have ever played TF2. Her kindness has been a shining light within this community.

So when you talk about somebody who has been nice, that's what comes to mind. Do not mistake me, there are many example of nice people, I've had the pleasure to meet a bunch of them here; but who better to talk about as a nice player than the embodiment of it. She defines it. She is a representation to not just eGO but the worldwide phenomenon of gaming as a whole; of what gamers should aspire to be.

Excellent, excellent response. It also reminds me to tell everyone this isn’t a competition of who is the nicest player (Foggy made a good distinction that was not what he was saying) it’s “who was nice and it stuck with you the most?”
Thanks Foggy, and yea LE are encouraged to participate

My own personal story of benevolence is not impressive by any stretch of the imagination, but it is the scenario that I find the most relevant to the aforementioned context as mentioned in the thread's inaugural post.

I play Team Fortress 2 for two primary reasons:

  1. As an extensive pastime because I have always enjoyed the gameplay and innumerous dynamics and elements of the atmosphere and characters.
  2. As an adequate medium for customization of those said characters.

The latter reason will be pertinent to my story.

A couple of months ago (the exact length of time, I do not recall), I found myself "cosmetically frustrated" during my search for sufficient cosmetics and Paint Cans to wear on my classes. This is a frequent occurrence as my tastes and preferences are changing constantly, which more or less requires me to seek out new ideas and appearances for my classes. In this particular case, I wanted to purchase a brand-new Veteran's Attire for the Soldier to match with my Flashdance Footies (Paint Can: Zepheniah's Greed) which I already owned to accommodate for my Dead of Night (which was painted the same color). I lacked the Refined Metal and Steam funds to purchase the Veteran's Attire (which was a cosmetic I already owned painted Australium Gold) and voiced my desire to obtain it at a future date to a handful of friends, one of which was =(eGO)= @Mr_Patience.

Some time passed while I was fathoming my trading plans to obtain the Veteran's Attire and the paint can for it; I was contemplating selecting a certain expensive cosmetic to trade for Keys so I could make the purchase. Whilst I was doing it, I received a ping from Mr. Patience in which he requested me to check my trade offers. Curious, I looked at my Steam inbox and found that he had sent me a gift request to supply me with a pre-painted Veteran's Attire in exchange for nothing. I immediately protested against Mr. Patience just handing me such an expensive item because I'm normally against such a thing (I do consider myself a modest person). He insisted regardless.

Thanks to his generous offer, I now proudly wear my Zepheniah's Greed Veteran's Attire on my Soldier at virtually all times. If I encounter Mr. Patience during a game and I do not have it equipped, I swiftly do so just to honor him, which I was simultaneously doing anyways because I named it after him. As repayment, I provided him with approximately 60 leftover Refined Metal that I had in my inventory. Whether or not he has spent any of it is a mystery to me, but given the amount of time which has passed, it is safe to assume he most certainly used some of it for trading.

To explain the name, me and Mr. Patience jointly discussed what a suitable name for the cosmetic would be. We ultimately decided on the above name because we were convinced that the exact type of coat was a topcoat (essentially an alternative name for an overcoat) and because being "tolerable / tolerant" is synonymous with "being patient". The description is a reference to Mr. Patience's Sniper skills rubbing off on me.

Thank you, friend.

@Sabre has been a friend to me. We were playin in a casual game, he as medic, I as demo, desperately holding last. I had a killstreak Iron Bomber, and nothing else on demo. After a throwaway comment about acquiring a killstreak Sticky Launcher, Sabre bought both a Strange Specialized Killstreak Sticky Launcher, but also a Strange Specialized Killstreak Iron Bomber, and gifted both to me. I am indebted to his gift, and forever indebted to his kindness.
