Network question...

I am stuck on 10/100 wired... my wife is blowing me away with faster speeds via her new wireless N set up. The question is simple... can I buy a switch like this:

And turn her wireless router into an access point? Her router is:

Is that stupid? Or should I just buy either a wireless card for my computer or just replace the modem?

you can turn hers into a access point IF! <-- if

your modem has a built in router that can assign IP addresses


if it can't, then no you can't... I had to buy a gigabit wireless N router because of that same reason.

1- run a wire to her router 100' RJ45 goes for around $20
2- buy a wireless n card or usb wireless n plug in
3- buy a new network card that 100/1000mbs
there are three options you can choose the one you want to do just remember that if your high speed network is 10 mb/s or even 15 mb/s your computers will not be able to work faster than those speeds online. When the computers are networked together they will hit the higher speeds of the computers themself or the router in transfering imformation to each other.
