when the iphone was nothing more than a project, a open source software company named Openmoko announced a competitor to the iphone that uses a linux interface as the iphone uses an OSX interface. the phone had the abilities of touch screen, allows user made apps, and it comes unlocked, so any carrier with SIM card feature can use it. the Neo 1973 was realeased last year, and was a prototype. of course, it didnt get as much steam as it intended. heres a vid of it

In january, the Neo Freerunner was announced. it was the final form of the 1973 and was made for more mainstream use instead of just most linux fans. it has all of the 1973's features, including web browser, GPS, and much more. due to its lack of camera and publicity, this device will probably never be as popular as the iphone, but hey. who knows? heres a vid of the freerunner in action
