Ex-wife collected swords, and for some reason, sharpened them even though they were very clearly not made for that. She did an excellent job with one of them as I found out the hard way.

The sword in question was a replica from Blade, and displayed on the wall in the stairwell leading from the mezzanine to the living room. I tripped down the stairs, and flung my hands out to catch myself, knocking it from the wall. I was unsuccessful and tumbled down too. The sword beat me there and was resting just the right way that when I landed, I landed on the edge, just near the tip.

Severed the common peroneal nerve in my left leg clean through, just below the knee, causing me drop foot and sensation loss instantaneously. Doc was able to sew it back together and while I did regain plenty of function after about a year; enough to walk unaided 95% of the time; it also didn't real properly and now aches every day, with some numb spots still and occasional need for a cane.

that's insane. did it not heal properly because your body healed weird or was it a doctor screwed up type thing? I had knee surgery and my ring toe all the way to right under my knee goes numb and the area around it gets tingly. nothing like what happened to you tho. I am glad you can walk normally after that. someone I used to play video games with once tripped and something happened with their achilles and Im pretty sure they lost most function in their lower leg. very happy you can walk unaided most of the time.

Nerves seldom heal properly once damaged sadly. Nothing the doc or I could do about it.

It healed as a nerve ball. So, instead of the nerve being like -------, its more like --###--. If it gets hit too hard, I blackout because of the intense signal I get from it. If I push on it, even clear up by my knee, I feel it in my foot. It's just something I've learned to live with, although some days it's hard to ignore.
