Thanks all for sugggestions. I tried disabling McAfee firewall, removed all hl and steam references in firewall and let it relearn, etc. as detailed in exchange with Steam Support below. No luck. Also d/l'ed and installed the latest firmware for the Linksys router, a WRT 54GS with speed booster. Probably will need to start more drastic measures soon, like replace router, format C:, none of which I look forward to.
Hello,
Thanks for fast reply, however this process did not fix the problem.
First I verified GCF cache files as indicated at:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
Then I deleted DoD Source folder under SteamApps as indicated.
Then I restarted Steam and launched DoD source. Game start screen came up
no problem (as before), but "Find servers" still produced no results after
several minutes. System just hangs, and no server names come up. Little or
no activity on the task bar network connectivity icon (as if Steam isn't
really talking on the network to find servers). On hitting Stop Refresh, I
get "No internet games responded to the query." Filters are unchecked (show
all servers). Favorites tab automatically reports "No internet games
responded to the query." after about 3 seconds.
I noticed that I had the file DoD source beta as an additional file under
SteamApps (although DoD source beta no longer shows up as an option in the
My Games list). So I went through the whole process again, only this time
I deleted both DoD source folder and DoD source beta folder. Restarted
Steam and launced DoD source. Same result-- no servers listed, and on
hitting Stop Refresh, received "No internet games responded to the query."
Any other ideas before I take an MG-42 to my hardware and start over? You
know I used to play HL on a 400 mhz PC with 640K of memory and a 40mb drive.
Now I have all this cool hardware, and it coughs up blood. Ain't technology
wonderful?
Best regards,
Jerry
