If you are poor like me and have wanted a Gigabyte 8800 GT here's your chance. NewEgg has them for $99 and you get a $30 rebate to boot until July 15th or until they run out. Of course it takes a PCIE 16X video card slot and you had better have a 500 Watt power supply or above to support it. It also has 256 MB of RAM instead of the usual 512 MB but what the hell? Just in case anyone is interested. I ordered one.

Just another service from your friendly eGO brothers.

hmm the great debate... go ahead and start my new sys build by getting this card or wait till August and hope more prices have dropped on better ones.

Good deal, I got a 8800GT 512mb for around $150 bucks a little after they came out. Maybe it was $175

There were NO 8800's under $400 when i built this box in January. they still cost $175. Just thought I'd share it with my friends...oh, and Slayr. Mine should be here Wednesday.

Oh, I added $20 for the 2 year Warranty.

Wow, excellent price. Unfortunately my board does not support PCIe 2.0, so there's really no point in me buying this. Besides, I really only play TF2 and my 7600GT runs it just fine. :)

Actually, PCIe 2.0 is backward compatible. In fact it is useless at the moment and probably for a long time to come. Even the GTX 280s don't come close to using all the bandwidth of a regular PCI x16 slot. So, don't let that fact deter you.

if im correct, the gigabyte cards dont come with warranty's, only the new egg one. so if it breaks later on down the road, your screwed. just remembering, i could be wrong. but all in all, its a pretty good price.

I did some research and it looks like you are correct. I guess I was just looking at cards on newegg, and I noticed that the cards were specifically separated into PCI Express x16 and PCI Express 2.0 x16. I just assumed it was a different interface. Apparently not.

So maybe I will upgrade my video card in the near future...

I also found this on newegg for $150 (at the time of posting):

The thing is, I do this quite often. I sit here and I look at putting a new system together and drool over the specs, but then I remember that the only game I play is TF2...and my current system runs it just fine. Yes, it will get a little choppy here and there (particularly in large, open areas of the maps) but overall it runs great. I also think the choppiness may be related to the fact that I'm running it on Linux. If I reboot into Windows (which I rarely do) then the FPS stays around 30-40 instead of periodically dropping to like 17.

Oh well...I guess I don't need to spend money when my system works perfectly 99% of the time. :/
